Time for some brake over hauling on Old blue.
Needs a master cylinder too.
Now to figure out what is who under this pieced together truck.
Squarebody front front crossmember and brakes

New calipers rotors wheel studs and seals with stainless brake flex lines.
Can't wait to get this on Old blue

And apparently the c10 and c20 use a different master cylinder. The fittings are switched front to rear.

Can someone tell me which master cylinder this truck has?

As it's a originally a manual brake c10 that's been swapped to 8 lug stuff.

That looks like a front reservoir to front brakes, BUT that line should not bend above the height of the fluid level. Has potential for an air pocket at the top. What 'cha gonna do for a parking brake

Nothing.
This one hasn't been used since I got it. Flat lander problems.
And I agree that brake line is terrible.
Going to delete the ancient trailer brake controller while I'm there.
Just wanted to get the right master so I'm not reinventing anything on the 1 day a week I have to work on Old blue.

I think Lugnut4x4 has kits that include e-brakes.

The mc pictured appears to be from a pre-71 C10 (all 1/4" lines; front res line goes to front of distrib block, and on to front brake wheel cylinders). Is that what old Blue started as, a pre-71 C10?

If you're converting a pre-71 C10 to a 4-wheel disk C20, all bets are kinda off for using a factory mc since there was no such animal from the factory for a truck.

You are correct that a 3/4 ton mc is different than a 1/2 ton mc in the disk/drum years of 71-72. For a 71-72 3/4 ton, the front reservoir fed the REAR drum brakes and had 1/4" lines - whereas the rear reservoir fed the FRONT disk brakes and had 3/16" lines. But, BOTH were designed for a disk/drum brake system.

You have a unique scenario with a 4 wheel disk setup - none of the stock master cylinders are designed for that. I'd recommend that you install an aftermarket mc recommended by the disk kit mfgr (and make sure they know you need an mc for a truck with 3/4 ton running gear). OR, I'd consider a Vette 4-wheel disk type mc as a viable option also. But I'd definitely replace the current mc - and I'd try to install one that is designed for a 4-wheel disk setup.

I'd also talk to your kit mfgr for line size recommendations. Generally speaking, disk system lines are 3/16" - and I'm suspecting you have all 1/4" lines today. That is probably ok, the brakes will still work - but IF you happen to be replacing lines, I'd ask the kit mfgr what they recommend as they may recommend 3/16" all the way around. Again, I wouldn't lose too much sleep if you have all 1/4" lines - that's ok. But IF you're replacing stuff - keep in mind that in a 4 wheel disk setup, the MC "should" be designed for 4 wheel disks and you'd probably want to install an adjustable proportioning valve to be able to fine-tune your system. And you'll want to ensure your lines are at least all the same size across the entire system.

At some point like 73-4 it got a 71 ish long bed back half.
Then again at some point it gained a complete square body front crossmember.
It's like a game of sleuth getting parts for this old truck.
But being this truck was my parents it's fun.


I wonder if a corvette master would go in this booster with minimal reinventing.

I installed the Lugnut kit on my 72 C20 Dana 60, and was worried about the disc/disc performance without adding a new/different proportioning valve, but it works just great without messing with or adding anything!

My master cylinder is currently leaking.
And since I've opened up this can of worms.
May as well make it as good as I can.

So I got around to changing parts finally.
Got a c20 master- I needed adapters to make it work with the new proportioning valve.
And It locked up the back brakes.
The old one leaked and had floaters in the reservoir
Swapped it to squarebody master I had on the shelf.
No adapters required and seems to work however the small er ish front brake lines make me wonder.

The old truck still has original type rotors under it

That looks to be a Corvette master cylinder. The big front and rear fluid compartments look about right. Here is a Corvette master. There are a few slightly different designs.

Well finally got around to the rear disc swap. As a wheel cylinder died. Good reason to get it over with.

1/2 studs in the truck
9/16 studs in the kit.
Giant pain finding a proper drill bit, and worse a competent micrometer operator.
However it's going together for now.
Hopefully final assembly and review tomorrow.
For now a cold beer to celebrate a 4hr project taking 8 for just one side.

10 out of 10 for performance
8 of 10 for installation
Still thinking a pv4 proportioning valve would help.
Seems a bit tail happy on a panic brake application

Yes, however I'm going to install a pv4 proportioning valve eventually.

Finally lost the cross hatch in the rotors.
Still a pv2 proportioning valve too.
