Aftermarket tilt column no ground
So when tracing why my horn wouldn't work I discovered my black powder coated tilt column wasn't grounding to the body. Where it clamps to the dash I had put in a piece of rubber to tighten up a loose clamp so no good contact there. I took the clamp off at the firewall and bared some metal and slipped a star washer under the clamp. Problem solved.

Re: Aftermarket tilt column no ground
Thank you for the information. Lack of a good ground has been a major cause of the electrical problems we find on our trucks.

Re: Aftermarket tilt column no ground
My truck was painted while apart so I felt it made good grounds a bit more challenging. I put extra braided ground cables in several places. I also added ground wires to the bodies of my rear lights that are grounded to the truck frame. My headlights are grounded to the rad support instead of just to the bucket. The rad support is grounded to the frame. My battery neg goes to the block, the frame and the firewall. When it comes to grounds you can't have too many.
