its been a while since i have dropped in here.been so busy lately i haven't been able to pick up a wrench. thanks again for more comments fellas.in the new year my buddy is going to let me move back into his garage so i can finish it up.as for hinges in going to install some in the back.they will be custom.

and for the center console i will try to think back and give you a step by step.it was actually quite easy to build.hardest part was getting the right measurement for the shifter and hand brake holes.

1st step...i got my measurements of the length and height i needed to work with and cut a rectangle out of thin press board with that measurement.you could use cardboard.

2nd step...i trimmed the rectangle at the rear to fit the back of the cab perfect and the front to fit up to the underside of my dash.

3rd step...i had an idea of the shape and just marked out the flat lines of the place where the shifter would stick through then the step up where the arm rest would be.then just traced circles from various things laying around to get the flow i needed.


4th step...after cutting the shape out of the press board i traced in onto sheet metal (18ga) then cut it out (make both sides the same)

5th step...i used 1 inch wide x 1/8 thick flat bar on its edge and tack welded it to the whole top edge of the side pieces.this is where the top sheet metal will set on for sturdiness and will give a backing for welding the seams

6th step... i just figured out how wide i needed the console and used a soft measuring tape to see how long i would have to cut the top sheet metal to cover the top.

7th step... once the top was cut i began to get a rough shape of where i needed to bend it to fit to the sides.i just laid it against the side and marked where one bend had to be,bent it over my thigh (crude but it worked) then kept moving onto the next bends.

8th step..i worked with one side and the top and tacked it from one end to the other.this is where you lay the edge of the top on the side flat bar.as your tacking and shaping small taps with a body hammer helps get it into place.then repeat with the other side.



9th step.... tack weld both seams on each side every 2 inches apart until its all welded.dont let it get too hot or it will warp.once done use a flap disc to buff and round the edges.


10th step...install it in place and carefully drill holes where you want to mount it to the floor .i welded 1/4 thick flat bar tabs drilled and tapped to thread a 1/4 bolt into.worked great.but im sure sheet metal screws would do also

11th...cut holes for gauges/shifters/switches/nitrous bottles/cup holders ect then body fill/prime/paint and enjoy


and to be honest once your into it its not that hard at all.

Thanks. It seems simple enough. I've never welded before, but I'm taking your advice from an earlier response. You said just buy a cheap mig welder and go after it. So I'm gonna do just that. Thanks again and good luck with the rest of the build.

I am doing a similar color combo with my stepside. Satin black with a maroon interior.

and yes, the abs has to bled with a tech2. might be able to use hp tuners or efi live, never tried...

it was a ton of work in a short time.but it made for a great winter.that color combo should be great.i find it really makes the red pop out

thanks man.i gave up on the abs and im going with a wilwood dual resivoir system.its simple and looks hella cool.

beleive it or not i do have a little progress.it was warm enough today that i could actually do something and not have my jewls freeze off.a little while ago when adjusting my door i slammed it hard one time and the factory rivit broke through the lock/door handle mech.i took it out and welded a washer on the pin to keep it place.anyways i got it installed back in place today.also started the ol girl up and let it run for a bit.and i forgot to update a while ago when i discovered that the door rubber off of my 2001 cab will fit on our trucks great.all i had to do was trim off about 5 inches or so where the two seams met.it literally took me less then 5 mins to remove and install.it feels alot softer then the new after market rubbers i had installed in the summer.not exciting updates but still an update.work should slow down soon so i should be back full force soon.

That's cool about the door seal actually. Time to scour the junkyards! Yeah, it's been a pretty warm winter so far here in KY. I've been out some, but been working on my Tundra and other things. Neglecting the 67 lately. Shhhh!

i was quite impressed how easy they fit into place.after sitting for a few weeks with the door shut i went out yesterday to get some tools from the cab and i noticed when i shut the door it was even more easier then before.i might try a little heat and work in when its pinching a little tight.got an extra bed room in KY?my truck should be showing up in your garage in a day or two good buddy hahaha.on a side note i have the box sides so close to being ready for paint.after leaving them for a while and getting back at them i found a couple high spots i had to knock down.good to be back at her

forgot to ask.i got a question for you guys.im going to buy a steering wheel soon.because its going to be after market im going to need an adapter.do any of you guys know which adapter i will need for the 2001 steering column?

hey, i was flipping back through your build and i didnt see what paint you used for the interior...

ive got mine sanded down and was about to head down to the tractor supply and pick up the red they have, its single stage (same paint i used on my firewall).

i forgot to write what it was.it was a cheaper single stage that dupont made.forget the name of it but it covered great

ya it looks good man...did you get any imperfections in it?

when i shot my single stage tractor paint i got little dots everywhere..wasnt sure if it was the paint or the fact im not running a dryer or anything (just a small filter at the gun)

i got a small amount of dust in mine.sounds like you got fish eyes.could be a contaminated surface.oil,silicone from Armour all ect.may have to let it dry,wipe it down with degreaser,sand it,wipe it down with degreaser real good again and spray it again

ya..thats what ive been told. i actually did sand it down, even filled the small pinholes with filler, resanded, and resprayed. same thing happened just not as much and not as worse. sucks but im leaving it lol

did you run a dryer on your compressor?

As far as the steering wheel, I'm pretty sure most chevy's have the same spline there's a few different ones, but camaro wheels fit our stock columns. Here's a thread that talks about some different steering wheels. One guys says 88-up are the same. Maybe this'll help ya out some.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...steering+wheel

did you run a dryer on your compressor?

i dont think it has a dryer.its my buddy's garage so im not sure.never noticed.too bad you got them again.decide on a 3rd try yet or still leaving it?
