Long Beds

That's why I feel long beds will be more valuable that short beds because they will become the minority.

When these trucks were new they were mostly bought by ranchers, construction crews, landscapers, and businesses that had to deliver or pick up products. Families seldom owned them because of the limited room in the cab. Wasn't until the 70's that it was common for people to have more than one vehicle in the family. Then they were a good choice for a second vehicle. That is why the short beds are more rare. Now with families buying extended cab and double cab trucks that have short beds to keep the overall length short enough to still get in a parking spot the shorter bed is common. Just thought I would share that with the youngsters.

I used to travel all the southern tier states for over 25 years for work. Virginia to Texas. I always saw many more SWB trucks down there compared to up here in MN. Why more SWB down south I have no idea.

I was in high school in the mid 70's and I remember people fixing up these trucks with custom wheels and tires. I don't remember seeing any short beds.

We had a SWB in the mid 70’s and didn’t like it because the bed wasn’t big enough for things we needed to haul. My mom ended up using it as her daily driver to work.

hi guys, I bought my 1970 lwb because I knew id be hauling stuff. my dad had a 1971 swb and there just was not enough room in the bed. im glad I bought a lwb. after all they call them trucks. BROWN 70

i am in the long bed camp as well. in a regular cab truck, the long bed is still pretty maneuverable. i did not get a long bed on my crew cab 2500HD though ... you add the crew cab, and a long bed is no fun!

I never figured that out either. Here in North Arkansas we seldom saw a short bed, but south of here short beds were the choice.

I grew up in construction, so we never considered short beds worth having. To this day I don't have a preference.

People are welcome to their short beds, but they aren't for me. I'm really liking having a Longhorn, personally. There's a short bed Jimmy, ~'65 vintage not too far from me. It's a fender side, which is a plus. But the short bed just doesn't do it for me, the proportions are just off, to my eye. I'll probably die before I find a truck that meets my tight-ass specs.

I thought I was into short beds when I first got into this body style but my tastes have changed over time. I like factory height long bed trucks and prefer 3/4 ton. Started off completely opposite.

However I did think a long bed lowered with approximately 8-12” taken out of the bed would have the ideal proportions for a lowered vehicle. I used some photo editing software and modified a picture of my truck at that time. Looked really good but I never ended up going through with that project. Sold it and moved onto my current vehicle.

I’ll have to see if I can dig that photo up.

All my trucks are long beds too. Even my 3500 quad cab it's not bad once you get used to it . Even with the plow

When I got into these pickups years ago I couldn’t ever find a short bed in my area. It’s ranching country so all long beds. When I finally found a short bed it was shot and extremely expensive.... I love my long bed..no information on the location of the photo ?

Yes, I love my long beds too. Of course I likely would say the same thing if I owned a short bed too.
