Re: Anyone got steel rear bumpers with the dealer name stamped in it.

Has anyone successfully duplicated the engraving or have any confirmation of how it was done?

It would seem to be straightforward with the large quantity and variety of these bumpers across the country, that there was a standard bumper(s) available and the dealer's name was added, likely by a different company and distributed to the dealers.

Thanks,

John

That dealer is actually still around. I might go looking for one for my 72, considering I live about 5 miles from that dealership. The one i have is from a closed down dealership about 100 miles away.

I bought this truck locally out of Huntsville, AL. The bumper says "E. B. Smith Chevrolet - Nashville, TN". A quick google search found that EB Smith Chevrolet was a Yenko dealership, and I've found a few advertisements to that effect. I've got the original owners manual that has the stock number scribbled inside the cover, along with a copy of the maintenance intervals reccomended by EB Smith Chevy. Neat stuff.

Re: Anyone got steel rear bumpers with the dealer name stamped in it.

Never thought much about it but I had a ‘68 / 50th with “special” bumpers front and rear. The rear was similar to these except the wording was built up instead of stamped in. I thought/think it was welded.
The front bumper was quite a sight too. It was built out of diamond plate steel and was a combination Giant Bumper and a toolbox. Probably 18 or 20 inches tall and 16 inches deep with 3 hinged lids.
Was a good ol truck that I would take back in now, but at the time it was just a good work truck that was bought cheap off the back row of a used car lot.
Wish I had a picture of it to show but was pre digital/phone cameras and my brother has all the family pictures..

Re: Anyone got steel rear bumpers with the dealer name stamped in it.

I love reading about dealer history and dealership buildings. I have been to the CC Jones dealership posted above and enjoyed researching the EB Smith dealership in TN and them buying Yenko cars. My truck is still wearing its dealer bumper from Pantier Chevrolet in Danville AR.

LOL How funny, I did a search on Dealership bumpers and ran across this posting from me. Well, I finally got that bumper, eight years later.

Re: Anyone got steel rear bumpers with the dealer name stamped in it.

Here is the bumper that was on my truck. The cool part is this dealership was less than 10 minutes from my house. The building is still there and owned by the school.
Regretfully, mine was in too bad of shape to save so I scrapped it a few weeks ago along with a bunch of other scrap metal.

Here's mine...Kirchhoefer Chevy-Buick, Nashville, IL. It needs some work, so in the meantime I found the other one, but no dealership info on it.
