I seem to be on a socket set binge.

Since getting more and more involved with working on my 1972 truck, I have had this desire to buy vintage tools. I now have two SK 3/8" sets, one Stanley 1/2" set, one Proto 1/2" set, and one SK 1/2" set. I have breaker bars also (all matching the maker) for each 1/2" set as well.

My goal is to have a decent set of tools to put into my car, truck, and garage so when I need one (ex: junkyard visit) I won't have to move any tools around.

What about you guys, are you vintage metal box types or are you cool with whatever good deal on tools you come across?

Been buying tools since I was 13. I'm now 56 and still getting stuff. I am a big metal box guy ones with roller bearing slides to hold the weight. Once you start it is hard to stop.

Re: I seem to be on a socket set binge.

A friend of mine at work was helping his grandpa at his farm and his grandpa was about to throw a bunch of old snap and craftsmen tools so he now uses some of them at work the craftsmen ratchet that i saw him use was a 1/4in drive after looking it up i believe its either the BE or H set which puts it at 1930-40s years if im correct. Really cool i was surprised he was using them actually.

Oh I know! I nearly didn't start the thread since I didn't have a pic. I'll try to take one and upload it tomorrow. I have a new phone and it is not internet capable (saves me about $700.00 a year without that option).

Obviously... I've never posted that before so I tried it. I have a few older tools too so I too will try to contribute today or tomorrow. I look forward to watching this thread grow.

Re: I seem to be on a socket set binge.

Spend the money and get yourself a nice compact 1/4" drive sockets set they will quickly become your go to tool set

Re: I seem to be on a socket set binge.

I have a set of Craftsman 1/4" deep wells that I have used for a long time but I think I am going to like the vintage (metal case) SK 3/8" set I picked up more.
