I'll play. I travel a lot and try to take picks if I find something interesting. I'll go back a few years and take it from there.

Seen on OH turnpike:

Re: Pic Thread:Sumthin Differnt

That's good stuff! I saw some strange stuff in Mexico before. Didn't take any pictures, though. Probably better that way cuz the camera may have seen something different than I did (cough Mezcal cough cough). But I know what I saw!!

Re: Pic Thread:Sumthin Differnt

MX is truly my second home so I have grown fond of it over the years. I do shake my head from time to time though. As for Mezcal, it only took me one time to realize it wasn't for me. Now straight up tequila is a different story though. Good tequila goes great with a beer or as the "Mexican Flag" (lime juice and sangrita). Also shown is one of the best thing about MX which is the food. Some other oddities to follow....

Willowrun, you ain't kidding about Mexico! I was there last week. We passed several police check points. The cops carry Uzies! They are backed up by full military police with M16s. No doughnut jokes from me I'll tell ya!

Re: Pic Thread:Sumthin Differnt

I love eating something different (I didn't say "bizarre") and the not so common regional Mexican dishes are some of my favorites. I like food spice-A...with good flavor.

About that Mescal. It was a Baja surfing trip during the week between Christmas and New Years in '76. For fear of having my VW Bus ransacked looking for Mary Jane on re-entry I gave the Bus a thorough cleaning inside and brought not a spec. We drank beer in the evenings, then one day my buddy wanted to get Mescal. I learned my lesson that day (plus one or two after that). I was about to tell the story, but it would get long and probably better for it's own thread. It was an adventure, to say the least. Not sure everything in my story was real or "perceived", but I saw some crazy chit mon.

Re: Pic Thread:Sumthin Differnt

Eraser5: I've had two crazy experiences regarding the military there. First was a shootout between the military and a cartel right outside of my hotel one morning. Machine guns and grenades going off for 3 hours. 19 people killed. I was on a ground floor room so my heart rate got up a little bit. Funny thing was I had a conference call scheduled with a bunch of employees and I still had it sitting on the floor in my room. People kept asking what all of the background noise was.

Other one was a dumb move on my part. I was in the north by the border (most dangerous area) and since I have a couple military blazers I used to (key word there) take pictures of cool military vehicles I would see. A truck full of army guys drove buy us on the highway and they looked menacing with their guns and masks over their faces so I decided to snap a pic....bad move. Guy in back saw me, motioned to the driver to stop us and next thing I know there are 5 or 6 more trucks of military guys surrounding us and stopping the highway. They ran back to the car with machine guns pointed at my head yelling in Spanish for my phone. The MX guy I had driving me was really scared (I was too) so I told him to tell them I collect old army trucks...that's all, no other agenda. Ended up with some tense moments and they deleted the photos off of my phone (but accidentally took a selfie of himself).

Disclaimer: Both of these events happened 3-4 years ago. The violence is much less prevalent now. I feel safer in MX then I do when I go through several cities in MI.

Back to pics...more in MX. Pic on water was of an old wooden sail boat that had sunk the night before I went on a fishing trip in Cabo:

Re: Pic Thread:Sumthin Differnt

Hey Brenner, thanks for the compliment. And, welcome to the site from the other coast! There may have been a thread on "old loves we wishes we could have kept". but no harm in starting a new one. If we end up with an old one coming back worst thing is it might get merged by management, which would give it a better chance of sticking around more. that is one fine truck. Is that one you had? Sorry for your loss (crying for you now...heh heh)
