Question Wiring heated seats

I bought a set of 1999 Chevy Tahoe bucket seats for the 71. They are electric with heaters. I need to know how to wire the heaters. I figured the electrical seat wires out but don't know about the heaters. The orange and black wires do all the electric seat movement on both seats that have the blue tape around them. I know the yellow is for the air bags.
Anybody have a diagram?
V Vette where are you buddy?

Re: Wiring heated seats

Subed
I have a set of new seats I will also be installing. I will assume we will need a special switch as my Tahoe heated seats have 3 temp settings plus a back only again with 3 settings. The seats I have don't have these controllers built in so I will need to add them.
Did you get all the movements working? I know some of these have memory and didnt know if that was an issue. I wont hook that part up but figure it needs to be bypassed.
mine are out of a 2005 Cadillac CTS.

So Andy you are doing away with your bench. Good luck.

just saw your other post and it looks like yours is all built in. Mine is gonna be kind of tougher I am afraid. I will need to do some digging I think.
Good luck.

Cool Re: Wiring heated seats

Thanks, same to you.

I looked at a set of seats with the switches on the door panels. I didn't want to spend all day getting them out and taking the door a part and chasing the wiring. I found these and the drivers side was already loose in the Tahoe. I think my buddies (electrians) here at work have me set to have heat tonight if we looked at the wiring correctly. I have found some aftermarket kits I will use if mine want work though.

All the seat movements work and the lumbar worked as well. I had to take the drivers side a part and straighten the rack out. I greased everything up good also. I will let you know later tonight are tomorrow if I get mine working.

Wink Re: Wiring heated seats

Well I tried but the heater just want work for me so! I'll start looking for a nice aftermarket set. Here is what is under neather the leather. I fixed several breaks in the heater wires. Every piece of black tape was at a break in the wiring.
I'll go back to the LQ yard Monday morning and pull as many modules as I can and get a few more small parts I wanted.

Depending on the seat you choose for your truck you will have to do some wiring to make them work. Mine where easy since everything is under the seat nothing else to buy.

Wink Re: Wiring heated seats

I got the drivers side in last night and wired up. Everything is working with just one minor problem.

I had plan to have the heated seats ground through the seat belt buckle so that if someone left the heater switch on it would automaticly shut off once the seat belt was unbuckled. Well it works backwards I guess it's for a buzzer instead, does anyone have any idea on how I can correct this? Info welcomed.

Re: Wiring heated seats

I would power the seat heaters through a relay. Activate the relay to be on only with the ignition on. (Not the ACCESSORY circuit)

This isn't the problem. That's how it is now.

I want the heater to cut off if the belt is unbuckled. This way if a passenger gets out of the truck and forgets to turn the switch off the heater will not stay on for no reason while I'm driving.
This is the only way I know for sure to have the heater turned off even if someone is in the passenger side and doesn't buckle up the heater want work.

Re: Wiring heated seats

Are you using the 99 Tahoe seat belts? If so, is the passenger seat belt wired to sense being done-up like the driver side belt does? If so, you could use that circuit to trigger a relay for the heater.

Yes, I'm using 99 Tahoe seat belts.

I think I have figured it out. The seat belt buckle per say doesn't have a switch in it. The buckle itself is the connector to the 2 wires inside the buckle. So if my thinking is right all I need to do is make the buckle the hot side instead of the ground. At least I hope so. I will try tomorow when I wake up and see if it works.

This way when the seat belt is un buckled the circuit is open with no power to the relay and once the key switch is turned off there is no power at all to it.

I think we figured it out tonight here at work.

A 5 blade NC relay. Terminals of relay 30, 85, 86, 87, 87a.

87A to seat heater,
30 & 85 will have 12 volts connected to them after the heater switch.
86 will go from relay to seat belt connection then to ground.
When switched on the relay wil power up but until the buckle is inserted nothing will happen because the belt is open to ground. Once the seat belt buckles the relay will open and current will flow from 30 to 87 and heat applied to seat.

Andy, 87A is closed when the relay is at rest. With 12V to pin 30, current will flow to the seat heater when heat switch is turned on.

Then in the last line you say current will flow from 30 to 87. You don't have 87 connected to anything. Connect 87 to the heater.

(I always use 86 for the + and 85 for the - on the relay, so if I happen to have one with an internal diode, that's how they have to be wired.)

You will want something like this:

It took two electricians and me to figure it out at work. We tried to use the relay in the heater seat kit but with the switch it just couldn't be done so I'm going to add another relay to the wiring to make it work like I want it to.

Drivers seat is wired with the relay above inline to turn on/off. It's temporarily until tomorrow when I'm off and can get it permanently finished.

OK both seats are installed and wired! Have heat on both sides. When the seat belt is unbuckled the heaters will shut off automatically! It took several people and me to figure it out but it now works as I wanted. All power and lumbar work as well.

I got the center console drying after using 2 part epoxy to fix where it had cracked. Once it dries good I will be doing filler and smoothing it out and cleaning the trim up to get it ready to install. My plan is to mount both amps inside the console. I hope they want over heat inside the console.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Glad to hear that. I didn't know you got those kind of temperatures down in South Carolina. Of course 24°F would sound worse up here in Manitoba where that would be -4°C.
