low budget 79' Blazer build. 2wd

Im going to go ahead and start a build thread for the blazer i had just bought. I payed $1000 for this truck which included an extra transmission, brand new B&M Zgate shifter and a brand new trans cooler. The truck is a little rough but runs good. It has full length headers that hang way below the frame so i traded some items for a set of brand new ceramic coated block hugger shorties. and because of the exhaust leaks im running new exhaust too. I got some new weather stripping around the rear window and put a new steering wheel on it since im not into the little grant wheels. I probably wont stay on budget but im going to try and build it cheap.

This is the way i bought it. ive been spending most of the time trying to get the wiring sorted out. tons of wires everywhere are just cut and all kinds of stuff spliced together.

The truck is getting the exhaust done right now and a tranny leak fixed once i get it back ill get a few more pics for you

Re: low budget 79' Blazer build. 2wd

well heres a bad pic but i had to get rid of that mirror.

im putting these wheels on the truck after i paint them grey with the white wall tires and some chrome trim rings i picked up off craigslist for 20 bucks

I dont plan on lowering it more as of right now. i already have a bagged truck so id like to be able to get in and go and not have to worry about anything or scraping around town. but that could change who knows

Happy that you took the green off the tire. I was getting over looking at that.

Truck looks good.

Re: low budget 79' Blazer build. 2wd

well i worked on the engine a little and tried to get that sorted out. the p.o. didnt put in a pcv valve so i did that and they had the brake booster hooked up to the front of the carb so i moved that and still need to get a fitting to hook it up.

I also worked on swapping out the front fenders got one on for now i ran out of sand paper so only got it partially body worked and rattlecanned it for now so i can finish it later. this weekend felt like i took more steps back than forward but sometimes it goes like that. i didnt get my rear wheels finished so hopefully i will get them swapped out tomorrow and have a full matching set on the truck

Re: low budget 79' Blazer build. 2wd

its like 5 degrees outside and i cant get my blazer in the garage yet but i did get my back wheels on so it has a full matching set. i probably wont really work on this thing for a couple weeks since its going to be so cold and im kind of motivated on my dually again. i guess thats what happens when you have multiple projects going on at once. none of them get finished

Re: low budget 79' Blazer build. 2wd

54caddy i got the tires from a local tire shop called dobs tire they are Runway Enduro 75 205/75/15 they were pretty cheap. I really dont have any updates it has been miserable here in kansas city for the past 2 months. I dont have room in my garage to work on the blazer yet and its way to cold to be outside. i did take advantage of 1 nice day and put my other fender on and my other hood on, still need to change the striker though. my old hood was rusted through on the front lip. heres some pictures from today hopefully it will warm up a little and i can at least get this 1 color again.

Re: low budget 79' Blazer build. 2wd

I just scrolled back up and looked at it when i got it and from the pics i looks like its going downhill but i promise everything i am doing is for the better and it is actually improving. i sold the shaved fenders off of it so i had to put these other ones on and they were junk anyways the guy that bought them was going to put them on his snow plow just because he didnt have fenders anymore from the salt haha

I believe you. That is like when we pull a "perfectly good" (name your part) off just to cut it up, or whatever and put it back on in primer. I love the in progress look. Hopefully I will start making some progress on mine soon.
