I had installed the new radiator about a month ago so I got the over flow tank installed yesterday as well.

I swapped steering wheel out and took the master cylinder loose for the booster install. Have to order a new rod for it.
The old 67 horn cap cleaned up pretty nice.
A friend came by yesterday as I was working on it and said you know I have a few parts stashed for these old trucks, so I asked what he had...factory tilt wheel new dash cover RED and a seat cover! So in a few weeks I'm getting it all for the RAT!

I think I'll even order the digital gauges for it later on after we get over Christmas.

Andy4639 when did you get the rat trap , i have not seen it before....Don

I got it right after we bought the 64 SS Impala. We decided we needed something to haul the 56 Bel Air and the 64 SS Impala along with my truck to shows!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Getting some freshtoration done on the '72. Here are before and after pics of the seat. Time of day and sun make the color look different, but it's not, it's original vinyl in the original color.

Scored a 60/40 bench for my '71. In decent shape for $70. My bench is trashed and not comfortable

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Got tired of not having a working radio so since the dash was still cut up I decided to take a old radio that was laying around and wire it in. Put some 200 watt 4 inch speakers under the seat and popped a CD in!

The good: It sounds awesome!

The bad: Auxiliary In seems yo not work right now but I think its because of a cord that is a little too long (25ft).

Once I try a reasonable lengthened cord and get that working then ill just have to plug in a antenna so I can listen to the radio.

Yesterday, I finally finished up under the dash, and installed my "new" glovebox insert (I've had it in the garage for about six years, so it was time ). For those wonderinding "how difficult was it?, not at all, it just takes a little patience to get the screws to start. I also changed out my window seals. Makes all the difference in the world.

I recently redid my brake lines and remember reading that there were some trucks in '67 that had the brake lines run to the outside of the frame like this, and there were kits available that replicated this. For the kit I used, I remember there being an option to choose inside or outside the frame. Looks like you ended up with the kit that goes outside.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Well, initially I was going to install an adapter plate for my qjet to performer intake and check the rear differential fluid level. I was able to install the plate and clean up the intake somewhat, then I started to inspect my v-belts. I had new ones in case they were due. That some when I noticed this....

My lower alternator bracket was clean broke off at the rear mounting tab. Have no idea how long it's been like that... I did just adjust the belt tension about 2 weeks ago. I did notice a difference in the electrical side of things (dim headlights, static on the radio speakers, dim gauges.)
Also, we had some rain last week, and was using the wipers, I was told by previous owner that the washer pump had a hiccup in it that would run the reservoir dry and continue to pump without turning off. I must have forgotten that when I rewired the entire vehicle, rewind back to last week and I was messing with the switch and noticed if I pressed the wiper switch in my wipers would kick on to the slowest speed, "cool." I thought..... well when I got home I tried sticking my hand under the dash to see if I could clear up the static I was picking up on the radio, when my hand grazed the wiper motor that thing was cooking! Got a nice red mark on my knuckle just to show how hot it was.
So I immediately recalled what the P.O. had said about the pump. So I waited a few minutes and disconnected the harness, we'll, I tried to at least.....the wires were stuck on there, so much as that the ground terminal for the pump pulled the connector clean out of the pump body. Each of the ground wires were really on there. To make a long story short, I'm assuming that maybe because my alternator tab was broken causing intermittent grounding issues, the wipers were having a hard time finding ground and used the washer pump case as a ground, and heated it up from the voltage. So I just pulled the washer pump ground wire from the switch and harness,no more heat, and I still have my wipers.
Luckily I learned my lesson about throwing out old parts, I had another lower alternator bracket in the garage, also I was able to swap out my belts. Good enough reason for me! Lol

Sanded it down and applied another coat of epoxy.. I'll let it cure for a week or so before I put it back in the truck

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Finally got a week plus of no work and no classes to do some serious work.

Stripped, de-rusted, minor dent/pitting repair and primered the long fleetside to replace the current rust bucket on my truck. That took several days, mostly due to my confined workspace (single car garage).

Today, pulled out the seat, ripped out the rotting carpet and mounted the refurbished gas tank behind the seat.

Swapped the cast iron intake and qjet now I need newer kick down and probably swap to cable throttle while I am at it. Truck barely got out of it's own way before. Feels like it flies now

Painted the top of the dash black. Column is getting painted black next. Just thought with the orange dash, the "Parchment" white visors, door panels, arm rests and seat upholstery will contrast better against the black, carpet, column steering wheel and dash pad.

It's too damn cold to be doing much around here but I managed to paint my tie rod ends. I'm about ready to put the front suspension back on and hook up brake lines on drum/disc conversion.

Removed old rusted bed. Assembled and mounted replacement bed. It's not perfect, but it's a HUGE improvement. And the extra weight from the rust-free bed has smoothed out the ride into work.

And now, with the bed out of the garage, I've got more room for activities.

Sounds like a really rusted bed for being out in California!

It had been used to haul firewood for 30+ years along the coast. When I got it, there was about 2 inches of damp wood debris caked on the bed floor, so it was inevitable.

Just because it's been in California all its life doesn't mean it wasn't a hard life.
