Did see the eye doctor today, started to have vision problems
I finally seen the eye doctor today.Started to have vision problems seeing lately. This started Tuesday and I knew something was wrong.Made an appointment with my step dad's eye doctor. Was a little nervous and this eye doctor is nice. She even listened to me and knew what was wrong.Described the problem as blurry vision in my right eye and a little blurry in my left eye.Said I have astigmatism in both eyes and discussed options. One was surgery which I opted out of due to the risks.Contacts are not for me,not going stick my fingers in my eyes.Went with the last option, glasses which are on order.A pair of safety glasses and a regular pair.Said it was my age as well,39 years old which I will turn 40 in November. Will get used to them.I am the person whom does not let medical problems go.

Re: Did see the eye doctor today, started to have vision problems
I'm 43. I have always had glasses, and/or contacts. Lately was getting head aches more often, vision wasn't as good as it has been in the past. I figured I was starting to lose my near vision like older people do. Went to the eye dr, and my issue was astigmatism too. I've always had a little bit, but it got bad enough that now I needed the right corrective lens for it. I love my contacts, they are the kind you leave in for 30 days at a time, then take them out and throw them away. They market them as an alternative to surgery. Anyway, my eye doctor found a lens for the astigmatism and my vision is good as ever again. Just needed the correction for my right eye.

Getting glasses is normal as we all age. You will be used to them in no time. I have several cheap spares in my shop, on the nightstand, in my truck , in my work coat and I keep my hi dollar pair at my computer. enjoy chevlady!

Just went through surgery on both eyes. What an ordeal....but worth it. Cataracts and glaucoma. The surgery actually wasn't bad just the recovery takes a while. If you can have vision correction surgery, I'd think it's a good option.

Yep. It happens to many of us around 40.
I only need bifocals for reading and up close work and i have found some safety glasses in the right bifocal strength so i can work under trucks and not have to fumble with my readers. I found mine at tool stores and my wife found some online. Even bifocal sunglasses.

Eye doctor said there is a chance I am not a candidate for the surgery,it's not for everyone.I have a pair of cheap bifocals which do get worn until the eyeglasses come in.I chose this style for my regular glasses, https://i.pinimg.com/736x/60/e5/18/6...-oval-face.jpg

Re: Did see the eye doctor today, started to have vision problems
Well if all you need is the bifocals like me i quit buying expensive prescription glasses years ago. I now buy readers from Walmart over the counter in 2.0 strength for a couple dollars a pair. When they get scratched up i toss em and grab another.

Re: Did see the eye doctor today, started to have vision problems
If possible, it's a good idea to get an annual eye exam, especially as you get older. I started to wear glasses with a light correction in my late twenties. I got lasik surgery just for one eye right before I turned forty. For my age and circumstance they told me it should hold for about seven years and then I might need a revision or glasses again.
It's been about ten years and I'm going to check back with them this year because I need a slight correction again. Everyone's eyes are different but it's important to keep up on health check ups especially once you get out of your twenties. So many of my friends had the lasik procedure done before I did, so I went for it and was glad I did. |

Re: Did see the eye doctor today, started to have vision problems
My son in law and I had lasik done about 20 years ago. He was 23 and I was 46.
Mine has been great, but his reverted back and he had to start wearing glasses again. I wear readers in poor light now, but in good light I seldom need them.

Re: Did see the eye doctor today, started to have vision problems
mine have been getting bad the last few years, 47 now. I keep a pair of cheap dime store glasses on my tool box. I need them to see small print or wiring diagrams. One of these days I will get an exam and check out my options. I'm the opposite of you, I let things slide in hope it will get better. Most times it does

Re: Did see the eye doctor today, started to have vision problems
My far sight went bad at 40 so I got glasses and bout 10 years later it came back suddenly and I didn't need them anymore. Thought I was cured.
At my next doctor visit he informed me that I was a type II diabetic and that was why! I lost 30 lbs and started eating right and got my A1C under control and now I'm back to wearing glasses again. LOL. For working in the shop I have a pair of safety glasses that have magnifiers on the bottom for reading and the top which are great for working under the '71 when it's on a rack overhead.
