Re: One more step away from a real truck
I just wish they would come back out with a plain jane work truck that was affordable.

Re: One more step away from a real truck
Oh shut up. I'm gettin' tired of you blue collar types whining about wanting a truck you can make money out of like the old days. If you don't have $37 grand or more laying around get a loan! They give you enough time to pay it off before before it has 200,000 miles on it after all. It costs a little extra, but what the heck. Just work more hours! If none of that works for you, buy a 10 or so year old truck for tens of thousands less and get the other half of it's life out of it. You can wait another ten years for your two piece swinging tailgate can't you? Ole

Re: One more step away from a real truck
Here she is. I wouldn't want to miss your "honest" impressions, CG:
Hopefully this is just an option for those who drive trucks as a car with an oversize trunk with no lid...until they buy a hard cover. I must admit, I'm diggin' on that gnarly window graphic. And this is a great idea for trucks with rusted out drip rail/header panels.

Re: One more step away from a real truck
Thanks for the picture. I think its like anything else today. Change for the sake of change. Designers giving us stuff we don't want or need because they still need to be relevant. Just look at a simple web browser. We used to be able to use them as a work horse, but now they need to give us more. Because you looked at this check this. Here is what is popping now. I did the latest update on firefox and it drove me bonkers. Had to scour the web to find an old version to download.
I guess Id actually have to see the tailgate in person to see what it actually does before I go bonkers on it. Maybe Im all wet and the designers did a cool thing ... I doubt it =) And I wonder if they will offer the spy photo deterrents as optional paint guards heh.

Re: One more step away from a real truck
The only thing i could see use for is hauling long skinny stuff, i.e. lumber or a dirtbike and instead of lowering the whole gate you lower half. that way you can throw tools in the other half and divide it with dividers, but i agree, not a smart option

Quoted from comments about the above linked article:
"The other news for Dodge Ram is the heated tailgate. So your hands won't get too cold in the winter when you are pushing it."

If you thought this tailgate was nuts, check out the 2019 GMC tailgate!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvaXZTK9eFc I wonder who will be the first guy to drop the "step" part down and smash it on the hitch they forgot was there?

Re: One more step away from a real truck
Remember when Ford was so thrilled to announce this tailgate step-up? It made me laugh.
Makes it easier to climb into the bed if you're wearing high heels I guess.

Re: One more step away from a real truck
That tailgate feature makes a great platform for your laptop. Finally, a way to get into the back of a pickup. I always wondered how those work men got up in there. I've never been in mine. Love that reach feature. No more stretch and ugh... ugh, can't get that tub 12" farther in. You know the u-shaped dent in the top of a tailgate from Mr. Newtruck backing into a pole with the tailgate down? Imagine the cost of bozo move. I wonder what people will be paying on the parts board for a good tailgate

I spend 15 minutes cleaning out my tailgate every time i haul a load of gravel. I cant imagine how long it will take to clean out this professional version of a GMC tailgate. Or how much it will cost if I try to close it without cleaning the gravel out.

Re: One more step away from a real truck
I was just thinking about Suburbans how the cargo doors were nice for reaching in further, and that seems to be the biggest benefit to either tailgate here. Of course, just like on a Suburban, that means sacrificing the option of a 2' extended bed when needed or the option of having tailgate up/hatch open for longer stuff. I guess that's why most Suburbans were tailgate model. Makes most sense, just as it always has for pickups for over 100 years.

That two piece gate is as fickle as powered mirrors. I mean I would really hate to have to roll my window down, reach out and adjust my mirror manually. Could break a nail.
