Amazon phishing pop up.

To site administrator. I absolutely love this forum and have found it invaluable. However. Could you please do something to rid the site of this annoying phishing scam pop up that promises a free amazon, iPhone X etc. it only happens on this website and at a frequency of apprx. Every other second at times. Sometimes not for a few minutes but it always happens. I’m starting to avoid during this site and I truly don’t want to do that. So, from your end, please.
Thanks

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

It is being discussed here. Not everyone is getting this. I'm not. I get a Ram ad every time. I don't care for that and have no idea why they think I want to see it. But I only noticed it when I read the thread on the Amazon phishing scam and checked. My point is I just ignore that stuff, so if it was a phishing scam it wouldn't work on me because I'd never look at it. I hope something at this ebd, for the site, can be done to rid you all of this.

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

Thanks special k. This is much worse than an ad. I get the ram one also. This pop up has no escape. You can’t x or close it. I have to hit the back key apprx. 3-4 times before it takes me back to the thread. But it’s almost continuous. And it’s not something I can even choose to ignore. It freezes the screen. Trying to upload a pic just for reference.

Interesting, I have never gotten that pop up from here. I have from other sites and it is very annoying! I have the Ram ones on here though haha.

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

It's not this site that's doing it. I would recommend you find a forum dedicated to your operating system and search for answers there. It sounds like you've got malware on your phone.

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

As Newt said, it's not just a little popup ad at the top of the page. It IS the page. Clicking the X does nothing. You cannot use the back arrow to go back to the page before. I have to hold the back arrow down for a few seconds until it displays the threads history. Then i can select one I was reading before. I've noticed the title of this amazon thing changes too. Mine said "gift of life". Earlier it said "gift of " something else.
In my thread I told what I did to, hopefully, get rid of it.
So far this laptop is free of it. It's my i phone where it has appeared only while viewing this general forum. I think I read there is no antimalware for the IOS systems.

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

Is this only on phones? Sounds like "they" (That's any scum bag coward on Earth) figured out a new way to violate good people. Probably did it because they knew on phones nothing can be done.

They actually have hacker conventions. They say they are to inform others of potential risks out there as well as new ways to deal with it. I say it's a place for all of us to go to kick some hacker wussy butt!

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

Fitz57 is having this same issue happen on his ipad.
I wouldn't say anything if it was only that little ad at the top of the page. I never click those anyway.
But this is a whole page. The fools got what they wanted. Irritating mild mannerd folks like me and to what end?

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

Sick power trip is what I figure. I can see the sick part, but it doesn't take any power or give any to violate a person from a safe distance with no way of them knowing who you are. That's real strong, man.

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

I am having the same issue on my I phone .
I look at this Forum at my breaks and at lunch.
I have to close it out then back track and then it does not happen the second time but at break time I don't have time for all that.

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

I had this issue with eBay on my iPhone a while back, and it’s happened a couple times randomly on this site too. After searching for fixes I found you can turn off javascript in safari advanced settings and that stops it. But it also prevents some web features from working.

Just putting my name on the list of those getting this. Only on my iPhone, only when visiting this site.

I did report the issue to Amazon since they are being used as the lure.

I’m not too tech savvy when it comes to the workings of the internet but both my company iPhone 6 and my 2 week old personal iPhone 8 had the amazon problems only on this site and at the same time early Sunday morning. I’ve had no problems since.

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

Interesting.
I just happened to click on this thread out of curiosity.
I have never had that popup when looking at this site.
However, I am a wrestling fan, and there is a forum I have been on for years and in the past month have been getting that exact same Amazon add only on my wrestling forum when on my ipad/iphone. I thought it was that site. I guess it is with my ipad/iphone?

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

I am investigating this, which mobile them are you using? Is there any particular page it happens on? Which ad is displayed when it occurs? I cannot find a local cause for this, thinking it may be on the ad networks end.

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

One thing I have read is to disable Java in safari, and go into airplane mode, clear the browser data like recommended. Turn off airplane mode and try again with Java off. I am waiting on an iPad to charge to try and replicate this.

Re: Amazon phishing pop up.

I’ve researched the issue (googling iOS redirect nets some results on Apple forums) as I had it happen here and other legit (not porn) forums. Some people who seem to be pretty smart say it’s the ad network the site works with. They recommended complaining to the site so the site can complain to their ad network. Then hopefully the ad network will look into who they’re selling to that is doing the redirect and put a stop to it. I had the Amazon one, sorry no screenshot.

But there is hope! In iOS go to Settings, Privacy, Advertising. There will be an option for “Reset Advertising Identifier”, do that. I did it about a month ago and have been redirect free ever since. The only side effect will be that ads on websites won’t be as personalized, at least not until “they” track you enough on your new identifier. I’m sure there’s a similar option for Android if they’re having the same issue.

Before that I tried ad blockers, cleared cache and deleted history numerous times only to have the redirect return, sometimes within minutes or installing an ad blocker! Don’t bother trying chrome or another browser, the couple I tried were all still effected. Didn’t get very far with disabling java as website functionality basically ceased to exist on most of the sites I visit. Just do the Reset Advertising Identifier and forget the other nonsense.
