'70 Chevy Longhorn 4x4

-
The '70 Chevy Longhorn 4x4 I built is for sale again. I sold it to the guy that used to farm the ground around my place a few years ago. I think it has changed hands a couple of times since then. Someone did put different wheels and tires on it though.

https://www.autoshowcase1.com/used-c...arol-stream-il

I didn't get quite that much for it when I sold it..... ... Not sure where he got his production numbers from but I don't think there was quite that many produced...

I always liked that truck. I think his production numbers off by a lot.

Re: '70 Chevy Longhorn 4x4

I looked it up last night. His production numbers are actually correct for a 1970 Longhorn. (Fleetside C20 Longhorn in 1970 5281) He's just advertising it wrong. This is a K20 with a Longhorn bed added. There were 6124 Fleetside 4x4's in 1970. Still a low production really nice truck.

You really did a nice job on that. But I thought that was the only one you produced

Thanks guys.

Tim-

Only one I produced without a doubt. I know others have built them but still probably 1 of 50 4x4 Longhorns in existence...

Re: '70 Chevy Longhorn 4x4

It will sell. Short beds and longhorns are hot now and supply is limited. That is a super nice pickup in my opinion. People ask alot more every day for trucks not nearly that nice.

I hope it sells high. That will motivate me to get another done and sell it. I need crew cab 72 funds.

How did you manage to leave out everything in between? All 67-72 K-models fit that bill, especially K/20s (and K2500s, of course)

Yeah, your right. I was not as inclusive as I should have been. Seems the rarer the bird, the steeper the price increases. 5 years ago, I could buy all the parts and parts trucks I needed, now, you are lucky to find anything. I will stick to my guns though, a K10/20 longhorn or a C10/20 longhorn for that matter, just does not last long on the market. I guess that goes for the the factory swb k10s. Another thing, if we are lucky to stay in this game another 5-10 years, just about ANY model c10 thru K2500 truck from any of these years will be unreachable to the common consumer. It wasn't that long ago, we were laughing at a thread that was advertising someone selling a six figure truck. Now where are we? LockDoc's truck checks all the boxes and the next guy will keep it and sell it at a tidy profit. Of course, all this is my opinion and as stated many times before. I could be wrong. I hope I am.

Re: '70 Chevy Longhorn 4x4

I hear you. It's already there for me. I can't be paying the wacky prices I'm seeing for anything. Basically, no such thing as a parts truck anymore. The 4wd Longhorns go quick for more money because they are a cool phantom creation... other than a rare NAPCO (which I once had one of).

Do you have any pics of that? I've been searching for a Napco front axle for the next Longhorn conversion but I think I'll just have to make one.

Not sure if it helps but this is an earlier Napco I saw this fall

You know how to install those knuckles on an Eaton?

If I do it, it'll probably get D60 C's with king pins and real u joint axle shafts. I can't stand those closed knuckle axle shafts. I had a D70 front once I thought was so cool and I broke those axles a couple of times and finally ditched that setup for a D60.

Re: '70 Chevy Longhorn 4x4

Sorry to go on a tangent but I would definitely go with a Dana 60 if someone was to do a conversion. Nothing wrong with a Napco but parts availability and drum brakes would be the down sides for a driver but for a novelty or show truck then Napco would be cool. They didn't use regular u-joint axles, they used Czeppa (pronounced cheppa) joints. The shafts and joints are quite stout- here are mine from my '56. Its also not as simple as just adding the outer C's to an Eaton housing since they don't have axle tubes and its a one piece housing that uses the Eaton third member and cover.

I should have an old print in my picture boxes. It was a '71 C/30 (Custom/30)and I bought it in '82 from a mountain top farmer (friend) and it was already pretty rusty ($1,000). He bought it from a powerline maintenance outfit. He had parked it due to being too low on funds to treat it right, due to a wife leaving him and his boys after trashing his finances, including running off in the Z/28 and wrecking that. He sold it to me because he knew I'd treat it right. He had put a flatbed on it. I took it off and put a utility bed on. I worked out of it, including plowing snow, until the cab got really bad. I had scoured the planet for parts (way before internet) and the drivetrain, including engine/trans, was all rebuilt. The plan was to restore it, mount a contractor dump, and keep it at the family place in the mountains to use for firewood, plow snow on the place (not in the salt), and enjoy general running around while up there. I had bought a '72 Cheyenne Super K/20 to have down hear. So this would have been '91. I had sold the utility bed and had it at the truck body place where it was removed, and was waiting for that guy (also an auctioneer) to come up with the dump body. While at his shop it disappeared. I'm 99.9% sure it was an inside dirty business type deal between him and an employee who was also into the 71/72 Chevy 4wds. Big fat bummer!

Small world- this one just popped up on the 'NAPCO Trucks' Facebook group. Owned by a guy in North Carolina.
