Re: 69 SLED Finally To Paint and Body!

Question about a part -
I have been digging deep and have only found these gaskets at Classic Industries, but they are backordered and the guy had no idea when they'd get any.

Does anyone know where I can get these gaskets for the brake/turn light housing -- AND for the reverse light housing. Not the lens gasket, but the soft one in between the housing and the suburban body.
Thanks!

Nope. I guess I would go to Hobby Lobby or a craft store and get a piece of that type of foam and make my own.

Re: 69 SLED Finally To Paint and Body!

I had to make some taillight gaskets for a 68 Lemans last year and was able to get a piece of closed cell foam with adhesive on 1 side from McMaster Carr. It was about 12 bucks for a 30x50 inch piece.

Re: 69 SLED Finally To Paint and Body!

Yes - getting excited!
In the meantime, I am doing some of the bits and pieces that help things look a little more freshened up...
I had an original of the small round push on caps that was nearly perfect. Found a metallic aluminum spray paint that matched it really well. So I gave all of the old plugs and the ones I bought off of doc (I believe) a nice warm water with soap scrubbing! Hit them all with some 1000 grit, then paint and now they all look almost brand new. Did the same with 2 large caps for the B-pillars.
Found a helpful thread on here about painting the letters on a 69 grill. Worked great on my original grill! And found some closed cell foam w/ a peel and stick backing and cutout new gaskets.
Later

Whoop!
Doors getting hung and fitted.
I also freshened up the brake and reverse light sets with a good cleaning and some fresh paint and new lens covers and hardware all around... And gaskets that look like a 3rd grader cut them out!

Wasn't expecting this! Paint guy went above and beyond and painted the new inner fenders too :-)

The new inner fenders look amazing - but now I'm going to have to do something with the engine! It isn't ready for prime time...

Re: 69 SLED Finally To Paint and Body!

I'm torn...
The new inner fenders do look amazing! But I had asked for matt black, so the engine bay would look more freshened up, but not over done. Now the much (much) less than show quality engine is going to look way out of place.
Not sure, I can ask him to repaint it matt black -- Ughh!

For me, I would clean the top of the engine up and touch it up as good as I could and maybe add a little chrome and run with it. There is no way I would have those repainted matte black. There are guys that would kill to have an engine compartment that looked like that....

Just my 2¢ worth....
