What a difference a few weeks can make!

She looked like this on the morning of Mother's Day:

And today, she looks like this:

Heading to Cheyenne right after lunch tomorrow to drop the cab off at the sandblasters. I have a lot of ideas of things I want to do to the cab, mainly on the inside. This should keep me busy well into winter so that I don't try to rush it trying to have it done this summer!

Some ideas I am going to try on the inside of the cab:

* Add A/C

* Shave and smooth the dash top, eliminate the cap. Maybe do a custom grey tweed full dash cover

* Rebuild the center section. Completely smooth, A/C vent on top, then CD player, then HVAC controler, then a pull-out cup holder.

* Replace ignition switch with a flush mounted one

* Custom made flat aluminum dash bezel

* Eliminate kickpanel vents, cover with grey tweed panels

* Underdash cover to hide whats underneath the dash

* Homemade grey tweed door panels, full heigth, with accent color panels

Yeah, I kinda like tweed!

Other things planned:

* Frenched power antenna

* Fill slots in cowl except for windshileld wiper arm holes and squiter slots

* Fill the seam at the upper rear of the cab, and between teh cab corners and rockers

* Shave the stake pockets

* Add a fuel door to the left side

And some frame work, like:

* Shorten the frame to SWB length

* Modify the trailing arm crossmember to allow the exhaust to be ran through it instead of under it

* Maybe box the inside of the frame

* Powder coat it when all the mods are done

WHEW!! I've got ALOT of work ahead of me. Better by another spool of MIG wire..............

Looks like you started with a pretty nice truck. Should turn out sweet though.

Doesn't that figure. I guess try to think positive, eh? You'll have a *****in' ride when you're done. I hope the drunk goes down. You don't deface a classic chevy truck and get away with it!!!

Thanks for the good words guys! My biggest motivation (or, is it the smallest?) is my 4 year old son. From day one he has called this HIS "blue hot rod truck". He was just devistated when he saw the side bashed in and the front bumper peeled out. He cried about it!

He has been a lot of fun to have in the shop, and has actually been some good help in the teardown stage. He is having a blast helping Dad work on the "hot rod truck", and I'm having a blast having him help me too.

Now, I just have to keep working on him to call it his "RED hot rod truck".

Not much. It's a 76 LT. 250 6-cyl & TH350. I bought it thinking I was going to build another bracket racer, but I just don't have the time to go to the track every weekend. I'd rather spend my weekends working on the hot rod truck. So, I'm pulling the engine and trans and calling one of them "We'll haul your unwanted cars for free" people.

"but I just don't have the time to go to the track every weekend"

I hear you there. I haven't been in quite a while, and don't know when I'll make it again. Anyway sounds like a lot of work to do on your truck but your mods sounds neat. Good luck with it. (and post pics!)
