Boom

My truck started missing and clattering. Got it trailers home. Pop off the valve cover. Found #7 intake rocker had fallen off. The stud broke off inside the poly lock. The pushrod and lifter where
Pushed up. Pushrod is not bent lifter has no visible damage rocker body has no visible damage.

So now I'm contemplating should I replace all the rocker studs? And should I replace the lifter? Should replace the rocker arm?

What could be the root cause of the failure? The valves where'nt floated and it wasn't over reved. It has been running pig rich lately. (soot on fenders) I attributed that to not having the proper torque converter. Base idle screw is set higher. Occasionally I will get an audible fart noise out of the air cleaner. Also thinking lack of converter.

Re: Boom

I would replace all the studs and polylocks, then check your pushrod length.

Screw in studs or pressed...also guide plates or not single spring or double. The reason you were getting the fart noise is because the rocker was backing off and poping back back through the carb.

Re: Boom

How long are the rocker arm studs you are running? Need to run the taller ones with roller rockers or you will not have enough threads making contact which will weaken it.
