Post UPS

I know everyone has their own story and this will not be news to most people but I just want to sound off.

I ordered 1000 forestry seedling containers last week and they were shipped and delivered promtply to the campus where I work/attend school. The driver figured that since the address contained "Forest Science Dept." in it that he could drop it off anywhere in the "Horticulture/Forestry Sciences Building" ("HFSB"). Never mind that the address label was VERY redundant, specifically naming another building with that buidling's number, buidling name, and its own unique 9-digit zip code.

So he dropped it off in the "HFSB" building on the second floor--which is the Horticulture Dept. floor. It made things worse when the lazy secretaries there never even looked to see whose it was and signed for it anyway and never told anywone they had it.

That put me off for a week on getting my thesis project started and it caused my seed (which was being conditioned) to stay too long in the fridge.

Anybody had any experience with FedEx Ground?

sorry to hear about the seeds. what is you thesis on. the shipping companies always seem to mess up only when you really need the thing.

Thanks, JJ. I'll be growing longleaf pine in containers and then freeze them to determine what night temp they can tolerate. Pretty simple, really, but there's hardly any research on this subject to date.

Today I found out that my guy who was going to guide me through sowing is out 'til Tuesday. I get no breaks.

We use Fed-Ex Ground for delivery. They are definately our preffered delivery method for anything 5lbs or more. Under 5 lbs we go priority mail.

Thanks, Paul. I did notice that my glove box liners were sent Priority mail...and received in fine shape last week. They go in pretty easily using your detailed advice.

i have worked for UPS and can vouch that management in this company puts quantity over quality. superviors and managers only care about how fast you work, not the quality of your work. i know they pride themselves on being effiecint and speedy, but who cares if its not accurate?!? luckily for the customers, i do care about accuracy and quality. the hell with them! besides i am a union worker!
