Stock 350/255hp, Edelcrock 1406, Performer RPM and ramhorns 3OTT, unknown rear gear. (guessing 3:73) ~22mph if I take it easy on the freeway. 55-60mph

Re: > What is your MPG ?

4mpg or less.. Drove it on a 70 mile round trip and used about 17 gallons of fuel.. That's highway driving too.. But it was worth every drop of fuel it burned! (355 tune port 10-1 compression dart heads etc, 4 speed, 4.56 gears, 41" tires)

When I had my 307 in it with sm420 4 speed and I think 3.07 gears and 30 x 9.5 tires, I was getting 15.5 at my best, mixed local and highway driving. I'm not sure how it will do with the 327 and the same setup.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

Gee, why all the doubt ? I use my gps for miles traveled , and check mpg's pretty often.
I use the lockup on the tranny , it has stock size tires (skinny) the edelbrock is a1407 tuned for mileage.
If you think thats hard to believe,I guess you will think I am nuts when I tell you my other ride,a 68
Chevy corvair, with a hot motor got 24.5 on my recent trip to Detroit,2000 miles round trip,oh yeah it is fuel injected/distributorless ign. (: Ed

72 Blazer, 468 BB/350/205, 4:11 gears, 11" of lift and 39.5x18.5 Boggers. Drains a tank in 80 miles (bout 4mpg US). Hate to think what it's going to be after stroking it to 496 and switching the gears to 4:88....but it's not built for economy . just too damn much fun to worry about mileage. Might need to get a bigger tank though.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

When I got mine to the driver stage in August 2011, I started keeping detailed fuel usage records. As of today, I've gone 6877.3 miles and used 652.1 gallons which averages out to 10.5 mpg. I've gotten as much as 13.5 mpg and as little as 8.5 mpg during that period.

Using Southern California regular gas, the cost averaged out to $4.087 per gallon over the same period which means I spent $2,665.00 on gas !

I don't have my log in front of me but I too keep VERY detailed records of fuel consumption. My numbers are similar. My very best ever was 13.5 when I went about 100 miles, unloaded, with a tail wind. I had a 3-speed manual, 350, 2bbl carb at the time. 3.73 gears, stock height (28.5" or so) tires. Single exhaust.

Now the same 3.73 gears are propelled by a 383 with a 4bbl Edelbrock 1406 through a th350. Dual exhaust. Not much has changed other than I never see 13.5 any more which is probably due to the slip in the th350.

A funny note on the th350. When I went with a turbo 350 verses a 700r4 I calculated fuel prices UP TO $1.799/gallon. I figured the higher cost of the 700r4 wasn't worth it because I'm usually pulling a boat (wouldn't use OD then) and don't drive it much where I'd really need it (70mph on the slab). Back then I never imagined $4 gas.

FWIW, I'm highly skeptical of anybody claiming anything over about 15mpg. Maybe 17 mpg with a 2wd and highway friendly rear end gears or an OD tranny.

If your speedometer doesn't match a GPS, your numbers are worthless and should be noted in your mpg guess.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

I haven't compared mine with a GPS (since I don't have one) so I am reporting what the odometer says without any correction. I think I figured it out one time that my odometer could be in error by 10% or so, so in that sense you can consider my figures ballpark.

Before GPS came along, you could compare your odometer to the mile post markers that are on many highways.

Come to think of it, that system still works.

I agree but big government has a GPS chip in every phone now and most of them are smart phones. I got a free application in my ipod phone that has a speedo based on GPS. In fact, I wonder how the Garmins, etc. are staying in business.
But yes, if you set your speed at 60mph, and pass from one mile marker to another in exactly 1 minute, your speedo is on.

However, if you're splitting hairs, I'd trust a GPS over the watch/60mph trick any day.

Re: > What is your MPG ?

My 70 short fleet with a 383 and Gear Vendors Overdrive and 3:73 gears gets around 14-15mpg, a little better on the highway.

My 70 C20 big block gets 9-10 MPG no matter what.

My 71 K20 with the 6.2 diesel gets 17-18 mpg around town...don't know about highway yet...
