Definitely very nice. I think I like any tandem made by one of the Big 3 auto companies. Older is better but I like them all. It seems we most saw/see them on the lighter end, usually single rear and usually straight trucks. The other day at the crossroad I sat across from a white '80s Ford tandem log truck and thought even that looked cool. Looked tough! It was one of those "take another look" moment of seeing it in a different way than when that style was everywhere.

I didn't find any pictures of an '80s F-series tandem. These old trucks will have to do

Right, more lower end GVW trucks were sold than higher GVW trucks, so when it comes to the heavy end, we see much less. Here is a top of the 2 axle food chain, the 10 lug wheel F 900, unlike the typical 5 and 6 lug F 500 and F 600's. Big benifit to the higher end truck, they usually had the more reliable air brake system.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

Back to fleet paint schemes. Trucks are beautiful even when they're dirty! I know Bill mason from the ATHS gatherings. He and his son run a heavy haul outfit out of Baltimore. Long before I knew anything about him I noticed his trucks and would run by his shop on my way to pick up materials in Balto. Then when I moved into this house, one of my neighbors worked for him. And eventually I got to meet him through ATHS. He is an International Man, which is a little different for an independent outfit into custom-built trucks. He owns a Mack B and other brands in his collection, but he works Internationals. Then there is his paint scheme, that IH dark green with shades of yellow to orange stripes and orange chassis. He definitely likes what he likes and his taste has grown on me.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

Those trucks do hard work. Being a heavy hauler in Baltimore means he gets called to the docks often to haul heavy stuff out but also just to move things around on site. He does also now run a big ole Kenworth C500 (I think it is)

Here's a unique Pete for ya. A 1979 Peterbilt 359 glider built on the 3rd of July 1979 never put into use.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

That first one is still waiting. At this point it should remain a glider kit IMO. The second one looks like it was bought to build a custom. Custom show truck since only 17 miles

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

Richard Copello is a big truck fan has a huge collection of vintage car hauler photos on his site. Luckily a few had the incite to take photos back in the day when most thought trucks "weren't cool". Hadley( below) and Convoy handled the haulaway in Western US. Earlier Hadley trucks were red then changed to blue in the late 60's. Yellow pickup is a 9' F 350 1 ton, not a common purchase by the public , IMO, probably sold to a gov. agency.

1961 REO 4x4 on Craigslist. Not my truck. I wonder if it started it's career as a wrecker or maybe it worked for a house moving company.

https://portland.craigslist.org/clk/...605166650.html

REO truck, 4x4, gold comet 400 cu. in. gas motor, 7 spd. transmission, air brakes, PTO winch out front, gin pole bed on back with PTO winch that's not hooked up. Runs and drives, tires are old and not road worthy.
$3,500. No title, have lien release papers somewhere.
Not a military truck
Project
Not diesel

Steve Leonard ran this from 70 ish til he passed earlier this year.
Jake Wheeler has it now and intends to keep it as it ran.
Figures it has near 4m miles on running local in the bay area.
Top photo was this week.
Middle was from October 2018.
And not sure about the bottom..

That is a cool one for restoration. I'd like to have that one. My buddy has a REO. It would be cool if I could roll into a show with another one.

The sleeper is a little on the small size, lol.

That truck reminds me of a truck I saw yesterday on the interstate while traveling to a swap meet. It was as nice as the truck above, but had polished aluminum fenders. Quite the impressive truck.
