Saggy blazer

I finished welding up floor, rockers, rocker boxes and b pillar work all with the cap on my 71 blazer. Had the door gaps all nice and I took the cap off yesterday and notice that the gaps got closer specially at the top of the door. I had to take a shim out on the passenger side just so the door would close without effort. anyone else ever run into this problem? I feel like a failure towards my welding capabilities... LOL

If the gaps aren't totally out of whack, you can get them back by adding and removing shims between the body and frame.

Blazers flex without the top on. That's why chevy put the door and pillar wedges on them, to keep the doors from getting jammed shut when the top is off. That being said, I have had my top off for 13 years and have adjusted everything to fit without the top. I adjusted it once and haven't had to since then. When (IF) I ever put the top back on I may have to readjust.

Blazers do flex without the top on, but it's really not that bad if the truck is in good shape. I don't even have a hard top for mine, and it's amazing how rattle free this truck really is. I do get a slight driver's door rattle when going over bumps, but I think I can fix that by adding some more body to frame spacers, and putting a bit of stress preload between the two. Using the brass door and pillar wedges that Raggedjim mentioned is a must, and adjusting them properly is very important.
