Re: Custom Belt question

A gen IV 5.3 vortec engine has a completely separate belt just for the AC compressor. It can be deleted without affecting the rest of the accessory drive.

I thought the same applied to other LS engines. Maybe not.

Re: Custom Belt question

If I'm not using power steering, do I still need the pully installed to make the belt work?
Or can the belt be re-routed without the pully and still be fine?

Re: Custom Belt question

That may be a diff issue....most I've seen without the psp have the aftermarket accessory drive system...looking at mine I dont see a good way to eliminate the psp with a stock drive setup...the belt comes off the wp and goes around psp and then to alt....theres no direct route from wp to alt without psp...
I know reaper has his setup without psp... but with aftermarket drive on one..

Re: Custom Belt question

Not trying to start a controversy here, but after looking at the two belt configurations, I noticed the waterpump spin direction on the Reaper truck is opposite of the normal rotation. Can the pump work in both directions?

Re: Custom Belt question

Yep, you're right. Took a little while to get my head around it. At first glimpse, it looked, well, just wrong

Re: Custom Belt question

Any pulley that contacts the ribbed side of the belt is turning the same direction as the crank pulley.

Any pulley that is operated by the smooth side is turning the opposite direction.
