Do you want to see something a bit gross?
My quasi-fiance had her knee operated on. She had to go completely under anesthesia, which I did not understand, but her mother is an operating room nurse, so maybe that got her a good deal price-wise. In USA I assume this would be an out-patient clinic & local anesthesia deal.
She had a ganglion cyst removed from her knee but ugh...it looks rough! It's been about two weeks but the area doesn't appear to be healing correctly. She still lives at home and her mother refuses to allow her to use crutches, which I do not understand at all and have thrown up a lot of flak over. |

A relationship that will never materialize . She still lives with her mother
When two people are in a relationship that they are extremely unsure about and won't admit anything to their friends about where their relationship is going.

While not pretty, it isn’t red and swollen so doubtful she has any infection. If there were any pus discharge or she develops a fever then there is cause for concern. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Re: Do you want to see something a bit gross?
This site! Always missing the big picture and going off on the tangent.
"Quasi-fiance" is a term I made up but I think is appropriate. We have discussed and agreed on marriage but I have not formally proposed yet. Grumpy.....LOL How many foreign women have you dated? In many (perhaps even most) foreign countries unmarried children typically live with their parents even into middle age. It's a money-saving thing I assume and makes a lot of sense on several levels. She lives with her mother and father in Indonesia. leddzepp, Good observations! Thank you! I just don't like how the wound is healing. I understand knee tissue is tougher than other skin tissues but the wound looks "too spaced" and the stitches seem to have been stressed. |

No arguing that!
I've done this "international thing" for years though. First flirtation with it was with a girl I later termed "The Maltese Falcon." Next came the "Hot Tamale." After that it was the "Brazilian Bombshell." Now it's "Asian Persuasion." Countries: Malta Colombia Brazil Indonesia |

Maybe you should try American girls in your own town ? it makes those cold winter nights in the condo a lot more comfortable than cuddling up with a computer .

Re: Do you want to see something a bit gross?
OK Ten, you might not want my opinion on the incision, since I'm a veterinarian However, I'd be fine with how that's looking, if I had been the surgeon. Yes, looks a bit yucky, but appears to be healing fine from what the photo shows. Will leave a scar, but what surgery doesn't? Take with a grain of salt, again the whole vet thing...

vetnat,
I appreciate all inputs and I appreciate yours more so. Mammals are mammals right? (Speaking of healing, NOT the Bloodhound Gang song). I thank you for your encouraging words. I sure hope she heals up alright....she's a professional dancer and dance instructor and needs those legs of hers! Grumpy...gave up on WV girls years ago. Compared to Asians, WV girls cannot compete, certainly not at my income level. |

Re: Do you want to see something a bit gross?
Man, as someone who's had to deal with ganglions in my hands (flexor tendon sheath cysts aka 'Gideon's tumors') I can at least empathize with the condition. Everyone on here lately talking about RA and other hand related maladies, I get ganglions and it sucks.
Had to have one surgically removed last year where my pointer finger meets the base of my dominant hand, suffered with that (and it popping twice) for 3-4 years before surgery, ended up with minor nerve damage from the operation. Now I've got a new one coming up where the middle finger of my non-dominant hand meets my palm. Hoping that one goes away naturally (Guess we'll see, eh?). They're apparently really common where the forearm meets the wrist, can't even imagine what that feels like. Anyway, echoing what LZ said above, other than the spot where they knotted off the stitch, there's really no redness along the incision, no visible puss, no swelling, those would be the to major signs of infection. Definitely ain't purty, but ... I've seen worse after my mom had a partial knee replacement and blew out a stitch fleeing a hurricane year before last. Ended up septic, had to have the docs go in and clear everything out, take margins, stitch it all back up again.

Re: Do you want to see something a bit gross?
shifty,
I am sorry to read that you have these problems....I hope you stop having these cyst problems this instant! Thank you for the encouragement. She had this cyst for several years as she does not like to go to the doctor (35 years old and this is her first surgery) and won't even take a headache pill. I hope she has no nerve problems! See I'm reluctant to trade her in....newer models may come with more options but they are much more expensive, are very computer-dependent, and seem to require more and more maintenance. |

Re: Do you want to see something a bit gross?
I doubt it'll be the case for her. With ganglions at finger joints, especially where the finger meets the palm, it's extremely close to the digital nerve, which is why it's super difficult to remove without taking a little nerve tissue or severing nerve tissue in the process.
If you're not squeamish, here's the surgery I had except my doctor cut the incision along the fold of the skin to hide it instead of perpendicular to it like you see in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDZBE8tcctE#t=1m19s You'll see around the 1m30s point, part of the procedure the doctor is careful to move the digital nerve out of the way to prevent damage. I don't believe there's similar concern working on the knee.
