Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub

Huge relief today...

After working the 4 parts trucks into one, I was fairly nervous about how the doors where going to line up, tried em last year but that was a mess due to the lack of body mounts.

Tried the doors again after welding up the 'a' pillars and was really hoping for the best.

I'm happy to report they fit pretty damn good for the initial test fit.

Party on, the hard work is now complete.

J/K - yeah, that's the one.

Gotta order a pass. side inner kick panel, then it's primer time.

I think I'll offer it up with an engine, tranny & t-case installed too.

dang Kurt, you're kicking ass on this one!

ya know after the copper one is gone, and the orange one is built you'll have to find another 2 or 3 to work on!

Naw...done building blazers for awhile after the orange one is finished.

All the recent building time that's been sunk into these two will later be used as "driving time"!!

I think you need the brown tub for making more blazer parts to sell us.

There's always a place to park here.

Thanks for the words.

Picked up a fresh supply of epoxy primer yesterday.

It really feels good to have this coming together like it is, after four years I'd almost given up.

A couple before/after pics.

Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub

VT, along the lines of the welding your doing. Are you using Gas? What flow rate do you use for the gas? CUft/HR? I just upgraded from flux wire to gas and I'm experimenting with the settings and would like to know if I'm in the ball park. I know it all depends on the type of welder, wire feed speed etc. I'm using a HF Chicago MIG. Be interesting to know what others are doing.

Just some general info on what works for you would be great, Thanks

Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub

VT, I found the answer after reading posts on here for about 4hrs. The flow rate seems to be 25-30 cuft. I had tried 20 but it sounded like my 50cf tank would only last 5 minutes with that flow. Dialed it down to 5 and got the snap crackle pop syndrome I new was not correct. Also, apparently, using gas requires a hotter setting than with flux core.

Still interested to hear your experience though.

Thanks

What gas mix did you get? What wire?
The gas should make it burn hotter.
I think 25-30 cf/hr seems right.

.023 with 75%Argon/25%CO2. It does burn cooler than flux, Verified by the other posts I read.

Sorry VT, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Just getting around to adressing your question's, sorry.

I'm run what you posted last, .025 wire with a 75/25 mix @ 20CFH for sheet metal.

Anything larger gets the .030 wire.

Pass. rocker installed, blazer is now 100%.

Little more masking (masking sux) to do.

Will be throwing on primer to the dash & floor areas next.

Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub

Tore it down a little bit further than I really wanted to but after looking at the small amount of stuff left under the dash, I deceded it was going to be a lot easier to spray in the Lizard Skin with it gone than with it there.

Turns out that there's also some surface rust under the upper-most dash anyway, so I'll put the POR to it prior to spraying on the bedliner.

In case you guys are wondering...this is the tub that will be built as my driver, the one tons will be swapped over soon and the TPI'd/700r/241 drive train is soon to follow.

Tub will be receiving both sound deadener & heat protection on the entire interior, under-side, firewall, under the hood & even inside of the front fenders.

* The Lizard Skin product is 'paintable', and by using an additive that makes the paint 20% flexable, you can use whatever you want to paint it with.
I'll be applying the same base/clear as the exterior to the interior.

The nekked dash:

Sounds like it's going to be solid. Should be nice and quiet.

...and heavier too, kinda wondering about that part.

Up top, under the dash has surface rust, gotta bruch on some more POR.

Can't wait to try & do it upside-down.
