These pictures made me smile
Graduated HS in 1977, I love cars and trucks of most years, but these were the rides of my driving youth ...

Re: These pictures made me smile
The part that makes me cringe today is what we paid for some of those cars back then
68 Camaro ss --$150.00 69 Camaro convert-- $350.00 71 Dodge Demon 340 $400.00 71 olds cutlass triple black $450.00 71 Challenger $850.00 67 Camaro $700.00 c-10's were $500.00 K20's we used for plowing snow and hauling split firewood / tree work about a $1,000.00 and we destroyed dozens of them these were all running driving cars and trucks , We thought they would never run out and bought and sold them for nothing compared to today's prices .It was easier to buy another one than rebuild an engine or trans .

I'm guessing every generation has the same story, sold a old classic car for a few hundred and it's now worth a ton of money. I dumped a old k5 in great shape for I think 1100, probably worth 10 times more then that now |

Re: These pictures made me smile
Lots of good looking cars and trucks there. I have to say I'm glad some of those fads went away though.
Did any of you find yourself or your car in all these pics?

Thanks for sharing the pics. Is the black charger a “500”?

Re: These pictures made me smile
It appears to be. The key is the flush grille only used on the 500 along with a flush back glass for Nascar racing.

Re: These pictures made me smile
Ah yes, the era before tucking became cool. We used to go to the local drive in a lot between 1974-78 and it was a muscle car hotbed then. Looked a lot like those pics except more chevelles and lots of 55/57 chevys.

Re: These pictures made me smile
Its an unfortunate thing that the collector car market has made it impossible for HS age boys (and girls, my wife had a 67 Firebird 400 4spd back then) to pick up inexpensive but very cool cars and just have fun with them.
Cruising on Friday and Saturday nights was basically outlawed around here in the very early 80's. Im sure that was also a big factor for the decline in HS age kids having a desire for a "cool ride" to be seen in. None of those cars in the pictures are mine. I did have several that could have been. But all of those kids in the pictures were me lol. |
