700R4 identification..
Hi all,
Can some one help me identifying a TH700R4 trans? The numbers are 0WGM299B I know this: 0= 1990 WG=? M= 700R4 299= day 299 of 1990 B= first shift. I can’t find where WG stands for, only model... Who knows it and is willing to inform me? Thanks in advance!

I thought they used a "0" for 1982 also.
I don't remember ever seeing a "W" in the identification code.

That’s when you have two letter digits after the year.
This one has three, so it’s a 1990.

"G" means G-Series Fullsize Van, The W would be the calibration ID (Governor)

So in short you can say, the second letter digit tells you the body model? Is there a way to tell the difference between L6 and V8 transmissions also?

I can't recall a 700R4 behind a I6, 4.3L V6 700R4's are near identical to V8 700R4's.
700R4's used behind 2.8L, 3.1L, 3.4L, & 3.8L V6 engines have different Bellhousing bolt patterns. |

My bad about the L6, meant V6.
You read on the almighty interwebs that the 6 and 8 cilinders uses different internals on some parts, that’s why the question. We now have two 700R4s and we need two more. They are not readily available overhere in the Netherlands. They are coming in cars with a mildly tuned 350V8.

4.3L units use the same parts & friction counts as the V8 versions. It's the 60 Degree Bellhousing (245mm) units that use different parts/friction counts.
I consider ANY & ALL 700R4/4L60 units as CORES that need to be rebuilt. |

The transmission are going to be rebuild, because you’ll never know whats inside. And, we want it right before building it in! Thanks again!!

There are some minor differences that can be overcome - servo, boost and line limit valve come to mind
