Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

Thank you guy's!!!
I know at times (in the pictures) it all looks easy, but we all know in the real world it is not always as easy as they appear.

Pic #1.A closer look at the repair.

Pic #2. This is the lower section that was bad, template and new piece..

Pic #3. Here is the new piece ready for final fitting. If you notice it has flanges.
These will help with making the new piece more ridged and add strength to the lower section of the fender as well. (The flange also had holes in them for spot welds)

Pic #4. Tacked in place.

Pic #5. Finished repair..

Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

As usual Guy's Thank You!!!
Doug....You got that right Brotha!!! These things eat up time like M&M's

As far as the skill's go it's trial and error..We all learn from other people's ideas, magazine's,TV shows etc. (this site is a big help for new and old ways)
Things look easy in pictures but as I said before it is not always that easy!

A bit of advice, look at the problem and think about it, and what would be the best way to fix this. (sounds simple enough and really helps) Then come up with your game plan to achieve your goal. (and use the poster board to try out your idea, A lot cheaper than metal )

Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

My problem is the lack of "spare" panels. :-( once I get my stock up I can start practicing.

Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

Thank's Doug! The magnets really help, and come in several sizes. I also use a bolt 10/32 and a nut followed by a nyloc nut on the end this way you have something to grab onto.

Pic #1. Passenger side rear with guide coat ready for blocking.

Pic #2. Drivers ready for blocking.

Pic #3. Passenger side door during the blocking stage. (the dark spots are the low areas)

Pic #4. Another view of the door and more low spots shown here (dark spots) these will need some TLC...

Pic #5. The upper section after blocking reveals some low spots as well..
It's amazing how beat up these areas are for the inside of a door!!!

Re: Blake's 67 GMC stepside build

Kees and Swamprat Thank you!

Been really busy with other projects (house remodel) so have been away from the shop a bit...

Pic #1. Here is another view of the door. (more dark areas showing the low spots)

Pic #2. This was after more blocking and clearly shows how badly wavy the bottom is.

Pic #3. After the entire door was blocked reveals alot of work ahead...

Pic #4. 1st round of filler..

Pic #5. 2nd view..

Till next time
Mark...
