+2 I see this a lot too, plus the heater core inlet and outlet are different sizes. So if the core is mounted upside down i imagine it could lead to a problem. Actually that whole thread is worth the read, good info.

Badpeanut, the reason I plumbed it this way was just cuz it looks better. There are pro's and cons either way. I appreciate you pointing out the difference though. If someone was gonna use mine as a guide they might not like that it's non-stock.

I didn't shift it to 4 high until after the picture. It was sloppy wet snow and while I could make progress as a 1 wheel wonder it was easy to pull back on the shifter and pop it into a front/rear 2 wheel wonder. I desperately need to bleed the rear brakes.

A couple of things that came up today were that I had a hell of a time starting it and the rear brakes were not grabbing at all (well I knew that last part a while ago, makes for ez brake stands).

I was having some trouble with it sputtering the past couple weeks and then double checked that the manual choke was actually opening and it wasn't. Popped it open and it's running like a champ again. Then today it would not start. It had been flooding with the choke issue so I checked again and sure enough, the cable is binding and keeping it shut too far. If I pull to hard shut it binds up and won't open, so I'm gonna try using some marks on the choke knob shank as a reference.


The brake issue I thought was just that they needed bled again. But while looking things over I found the adjuster on the pass side had popped out of its slot. So I got that back into position, readjusted the pads on both sides, bled the lines again just because, and gave it another test drive...




Test drive SAT. (Abbreviation for satisfactory)

Took it out through a cornfield on the south edge of town. Drove it like I stole it.

Kinda like when I was making that face and it stayed that way? My plan was to let it dry and then flake off. Just the beginning of my protective layer so rocks flinging off the tires don't scrath my paint.

Thanks, and don't you dare think about faux dirt. That's something some wanna-be would do and would justify immediate forfeiture of your "man card". Just do like I did. Step 1-Build it, step-2 fix it, step-3 test drive it, repeat steps 2 and 3. If you feel step-2 is not required, then step-3 wasn't done properly.

I'm glad they were too. It was about 1 minute of bliss pounding through the cornfield.

I'm getting to the point where I'll have to tear more stuff apart to "finish" it. Gotta pull the rear seat out and the wheel tubs to reseal those and get the bed liner done in the back. I need to do a little cutting and welding to get the roll bar mounted the way I want. Fix the driver side seat mounting (needs a spacer to lift it and more permanent bolting), still need to change lube in the diffs, install the electric fan, fix a few wiring glitches, hook up the stereo (low priority) replace some headlights, replace plug wires, fix gas tank fill hose, fuel gauge, and then decide which way I'm gonna go with bumpers and start working on those.

I have doubts that I will start the suspension changes this winter. And honestly, I'm in no hurry to jump into that. I'm having way too much fun driving it. Can't stand having a laid up vehicle. I have a bunch of vacation days to use up before the end of the year. I have some house projects to tackle but I know there will be several garage days in there too.

Finally got back to work on this thing. I went out to the garage and saw that the front left tire was low. So I aired it up and took it for a test drive...

We got a good 8" or so and I wanted to get out and enjoy it today before it gets cold. My kids got out early from school today and my son came in asking to take it out.

Glad we didn't get hit like NE MN did. The arrowhead region had 2' this morning and were expecting another foot. I think the snow is here to stay this time.

Looks colder than it was. It was almost 30F out. Barely cold enough to snow. I wanted to get out in it yesterday cuz the real cold was moving in. I think our high today was about 6F.

BTW, my garage is heated too. That heater was by far the best spent money in the entire garage.

It was a blast. I wanna see how it handles deeper snow, once we get it. Nice thing about the GMC is the all steel grill for busting drifts. Can't do that with a 71-72 blazer without busting the egg crate.

Single digit highs and below zero lows for the next several days. I figured if I was on a snowmobile I'd be in the open, so no top for me. I had my heavy coat on, and knit hat, and gloves. The heater was on. The boy and I were just fine.

Nailed it.

It's gonna need a rear locker at least though. Spools are much cheaper. Need to do some parts searching. I used a lock right on my C-10. It's a bit cheaper than replacing the full carrier and it's easy to install. Need to find a bargain though, money is tight.
