Ignition Switch

When ignition switches go bad to do they just die without any symptoms? Drove the truck yesterday, today it's dead. I'm able to get it started with a remote starter. I have electricity at the accessory position and on. Do you think it's the switch or the part the key goes into that's bad?

Re: Ignition Switch

Bad switch or maybe a loose starter wire. Does it turn over with the key? I am figuring not, because you said that you ave power with the switch on. WES

Re: Ignition Switch

Hey Wes. It doesn't turn over with the key. I can start it with a remote starter. I have power in the on position. I assume I don't need a new lock cylinder, just the switch?

Re: Ignition Switch

Yes, just the switch but buy a good one. The good Napa Echlin one should be under 30 bucks and not hard to find. http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Det...+50014+2014024

I'm fighting with a cheapie that I bought last year and will have to replace it so I'd say go for the good one.

Wish I would have caught that sooner. Remote started the truck and ran over to Kragen for a cheap one. Works so far.

Re: Ignition Switch

Get a remote starter from the auto parts store. One connection goes to big wire on the starter solenoid one to the little one, IIRC. Key to run position and crank it up. I have a remote solenoid so I hook up there.
