Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Here is my "new to me" Crew, I am deployed and saw this on craigslist in alaska and had my wife go get it for me! It has the 6.2L diesel that was just rebuilt. I cannot wait to get home to get started on her, she is a beauty and i practically stole this truck.

I have been scouring this site here the last few days getting ideas for my new project. Please give me your opinions. The running boards and camper are coming off first and then probably a 2.5 inch lift and just gonna put some 265/75's on it, not going too extreme on this one cause i want it set up to pull a 5th wheel camper. Will be posting more pics as priject progresses.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Here is my stocker dually with 235/85/16's. I opted for the skinny because of all the snow travel. Wide tires look cooler but if you want to cut the snow and ice the skinnies can't be beat. I see an Alaska post so that may be a thought. Suspension is fully stock here is how it sits.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Nice truck Bifman! Well, since i havent even seen the truck in person yet (May 15th!!!!) since i am deployed, i am thinking of just putting on the 265's, then deciding on the lift. but i may just keep it stock from what i am seeing here. That'll save about $800 on a suspension lift, so that is what i am hoping for. Thanks for the pics and suggestions.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Thanks for the pics joe321, i really like how urs sits. Think that is probably what i will go with, some stock white steelies and stock hubs with some 285's, and you have no lift on urs? Looks good.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

No problem
I don't think it has any lift.
The front springs, I believe, have 4 leafs.
I dunno if the 1 tons with the 6.2 have heavier spring or not.
I'll get a pic of my front springs tomorrow in the daylight.
I'll also measure from the center of the hub to the fender lip.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

The guy i bought it off of said it had the tow package, i dont know if that means it has heavier springs, but would make sense to me that it would have the more heavy duty suspension system. thanks for all the good pics.

Hey Donkeypunch...Come on by and check it out (heck, you can help with my 'to do' list - JK) You live right next door as far as Waddell goes. At least I'll know where to look for parts if I need them!

Hey joe231, do those tires rub at all? and what kinda gas mileage are you getting on yours, its a 6.2l diesel right? was there a difference in gas mileage switching to the 285s. I appreciate all the help.

No rubbing at all.
I put these wheels and tires on shortly after I got the truck.
It had 235/85/16's on it which are close to the same height as the 285/75/16's (the 285's are only an inch taller overall)
Yeah it's a 6.2 with 4L80E overdrive trans.
I haven't checked mileage (my trip odometer doesn't work), I'd guess upper teens-lower 20's.

I'll go take pics of my springs now...

Edit: pics

It does have 4 leafs.
My K20 Burb only has 2 leafs.
As you can see there is lots of room in the front fender.
The tire isn't totally straight in that picture...

Sorry I don't know.
Hilltop salvage out here used to have quite a few squares.
I haven't been out there since I moved back though. As soon as the snow melts I'm gonna go check it out.

Lol
I do what I can

One stabilizer is factory, one is an aftermarket add on.

Joe231, I would say your right about not having any lift. Those springs still have negative arch.

Jpalmer81, I didn't realize you are deployed I'll get pics of those emblems. I'll send them no cost to you if you want them. Thanks for your service !!

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

It's raining out this morning but I'll try and catch a dry spell for the pics. It looks like the inside of the 3's was collor matched with the paint, but it's almost all wore off, I think it would come off with some solvent.

I always try to help out the troops when I can.... I was deployed to Helmand province in afganistan 2009-2010. We exchanged small arms and took rockets nearly daily. My government repaid me by denying me, my combat medals and then diagnosed me with PTSD and gave me and administrative separation. Because I was no longer usefull to them in a combat situation (from the PTSD) At the least it should have been medical or honorable Discharge.

I make it my personal mission to try and make up our governments short coming any time I can

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

My buddy and I (Trevman) both aquired dually's a few months ago. Both of us have small shops and did our restores there. Trev has a few pieces to put together yet but the bulk work is complete. These trucks are like 2 restorations in 1, there is a lot of square footage for 1 guy to prep, sand, fill, fix, paint etc etc etc, all crew owners will understand... I have some other posts describing what is in the 79, which Trev dubbed the 'sex machine'. In his 1988 self titled 'Wyld Stallion' is a TBI 3fiddy, 4.10 gearz, Dana 70 rear, 4 speed, air and crooze. The pair are now ready to ride!
