Video: Mt. Airy, MD Fireman's Parade

The town of Mt. Airy that I live near has two carnivals each summer. We just had the Lions Club carnival in early June, but my favorite is the Fireman's Carnival in late-July. The carnival grounds are owned by the VFD. Fire plays a big part in Mt. Airy history. There were three different fires in the early 1900s, each taking out either the northern (2) or southern (1) business district. They built a firehouse downtown and until about twenty years ago, that's where it stayed. The town is also the hub of Central Maryland, which until more recently was at the heart of Maryland farm country. A heap of pride is held for our "Volunteers", which is lettered on the back of all the equip, ent.

So, every year on the first night of the fireman's carnival we have a parade from the firehouse to the carnival grounds, through downtown. Fire companies from all the nearby houses, as well as pretty darn far bring their pride and joys to show off. It's a great all-American event in a little rural town. Marching bands, color guards, baton twirlers, etc.

So here is the video of last year's parade. I hope you enjoy

Here's another little thing I came across while looking for the parade. Just thought I'd toss it in. Happy 4th of July!
