Door panel ?

I'm replacing my window regulator and figured I'd replace the few other parts in that area. I ordered a set of the Escutcheon in black. But from the diagram below. It goes on the outside of the panel.
When I removed my panel. They were installed from the inside out

Why would they offer them in colors if you can't see them?

It seems my panels are missing some cover /ring around the handles. The indentation is marked on the panel. I thought it was the Escutcheon I ordered.

Re: Door panel ?

If you look at the numbers (7 or 8) it appears that they are both escutcheons, but one is for padded panels which only came in 72, according to that guide. Not sure if this is what you are talking about or not. Also, mine doesn't have those at all, but there is a serious gap between the handle and the door panel, so I imagine it goes in between there as opposed to behind the door panel.

Re: Door panel ?

Actually no.. I just looked over the diagram more carefully and there is a # 7 for 67 and 72. notice there is a #7 for 67' then theres a list of # 8 with all the different colors and then theres another # 7 with 72'

Not sure if Im making sense.. Looks like the 67 and 72 use both 7 and 8.

weird thing about 8 is it goes from the inside out yet they are color matched.. hopefully someone else that has done this can chime in..

Re: Door panel ?

I don't think you can push the window crank on if you use "part 8" with a padded door panel. My 70 has padded panels & uses #7, my 69 has steel panels & uses #8's. Not sure if they left the factory that way, but's thats the way I got them.

Re: Door panel ?

Number 8 goes inbetween the handle and dooor panel with out it there you would have a big gap.
I also have number 7 on mine so that the handle spins smooth and does not grab on number 8.

Re: Door panel ?

I bought this from these guys. http://www.classicparts.com/1967-71-...ctinfo/18-045/ It pushes on from the outside. It has tabs on the inside that hook to the steel door panel. It looks like it might be #8

Re: Door panel ?

This is exactly what my panel looks like. And those are the same pieces i have. I guess the PO installed those parts incorrectly and put them from the inside out making no sense. Hence the handles still wobbling all over causo g the extra wear on the splines on the regulator. I will get some pics up tomorrow.

Re: Door panel ?

You also need part 7 in there as well other wise the clip that hold the handle inplace will drag/catch on part 8.

Re: Door panel ?

So 7 goes between 8 and the clip? Sorry if this seems dumb, but none of those were on my truck when I bought it haha

Re: Door panel ?

Mine has the door panel then number 8 then number 7 then the handle, number 7 protects number 8 from the clip and acts like a bushing as it spins with the handle where number 8 does not.
