12 valve swap!

Hi all, going to try to go for a 12 valve swap within a year. I've gone to the diesel conversion section and looked through a bunch of threads and there was a specific one that was I believe a c30 and he used auto world mounts. The mounts look pretty straight forward but I just couldn't see what he did for the perches. Are they the stock ones? Built? Bought? Someone clear this up!! Thanks a bunch.

Re: 12 valve swap!

Are you wanting to put a 12V in a ½ ton? If so, it is a bad idea unless you box and reinforce the frame.

Re: 12 valve swap!

A cummins 12v swap in the 67-72 is a really tight squeeze requiring either firewall rebuilding or stretching the front out. PLUS frame work. If I remember right the engine pushes 1200lbs with coolers and everything

Re: 12 valve swap!

If we knew what thread you are talking about we might be able to answer your question. We need to see what you saw. It would help to now what truck you have and what engine it came with

Do you have a picture of this truck? You are correct that Auto World has a mount kit that will work for your truck. If he used auto world mounts, he used their perches. They don't use anything OEM except a modified version of a 1st gen dodge cummins engine mount. It's poly and not rubber.

Have you read some of the swap threads in this section? B-series Cummins fit in a 67-72 chassis just fine. No firewall rebuilding, no front stretching, and minimal frame work.

This 1200lbs gets tossed around repeatedly on the internet. Fortunately, I have the Cummins B series shop manual in front of me. Engine weight of a 6BTA with standard accessories is 910 to 970 lbs. The 50lb variation is dependent on the exact accessory setup and whether it has a JWAC. Automotive 6BTAA's don't use the JWAC since they are air-air aftercooled, so figure 950lbs max weight. By comparison, an all-iron big block WITHOUT accessories is 685lbs and a 6.2/6.5L diesel with accessories is about 750lbs.

Re: 12 valve swap!

Max, it does vary but my manual shows 1020 dry and that's with no a/c comp, alt, vacuum pump/ps pump. The 950 is not accurate for a complete engine. I've weighed them a few times trying to shed some weight off one for a car.

Re: 12 valve swap!

My info comes from Cummins' own B-series shop manual. It says "Engine weight (with standard accessories): 6 cylinder engines ..... 410 to 440kg [910 to 970lbs]"

Perhaps "standard accessories" only means a water pump?

Re: 12 valve swap!

Hi guys, sorry I haven't really been on much but his username is kobush. The install looked so clean especially the mounts. My truck is a 70 c10 original with a 307/3 on the tree. Still the 307 with some goodies and a t5 behind it.

That's because he used auto world mounts. Ken and Dawna are great people and provide great service!

Re: 12 valve swap!

So is that set up mounts/perches from autoworld? Or mounts are auto world and stock perches?

Auto world does not use stock upper mounts. (Perches) You will get new fabricated upper mounting brackets, and a poly engine mount. Per side.
