Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds

Welcome. I always like to ask for a SPID before I hit the road, and to ask directly beforehand if its been cut down. Not everyone is honest, unfortunately. An easier approach is to only buy 3/4 tonner lwbs! Nobody fakes those Thanks for sharing, you may have saved someone an even longer trip.

That's a great looking truck. Newsflash: People cut down these trucks all the time, it's a common practice and has been for many years. He's cut down more than 20 trucks because it doesn't matter to most people, and he's making money doing it. Brothers even sells a long-to-short conversion kit now

I hear you there but before driving 8 hours the guy said its a real shortbed and that the spid was mia.. asking top $ for a shortened 4x4 swapped pos that still had grinder marks down the bed sides and not even mentioning any of it before hand is what burned me

If he didn't tell you after you asked that's a different story...I'd be pissed too.

Like Jocko said I also recommend a picture of the SPID.

I also ask if the 3 VIN's match (Cab, Motor, Frame). I wouldn't go out of my way if I wasn't comfortable what to expect when I arrive.

*For the record I flew from Kansas to Tennessee to buy a truck truck I hadn't seen in person. People do it every day.

Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds

I've made 4 long distance runs purchasing vehicles. Only was completely disappointed once. I pasted on it also. It was supposedly a two owner Blazer. He was asking top dollar for it. Wasn't what I expected for the $16,000 asking price. IMHO probably a $7500-10,000 Blazer.

There were a lot of clues when looking at the ad that is wasn't an original truck. But looks like he did go to the trouble of removing the extra stake pocket in bed, alternator on wrong side. Seat looks good though wonder what that was out of if it bolted up to original holes? Nice looking truck from pictures. Don't think you would get a factory shorted 4x4 truck all original for his price though. If it seems like to good to be true it usually is. Sorry for your waste of a good day but am sure the whole day wasn't wasted. . But there will be others. You will make another road trip for another one we all do. We bought one site unseen in Washington and what a nightmare. It was a 3/4 ton actually a one ton GMC. Title and VIN didn't match off by one number. The one that means 3/4 or 1 ton. Didn't run like guys swore it did. He was a dealer instead of a private seller. Wound up suing him to get it all straighten out. Finally after 3 yrs we got title straighten out with Washington got our money back for truck and got to retain ownership of truck. are finally starting to work on it after 3 yrs. Wasnt worth all aggravation. But have to move forward. Everything is good now. Does have original 402 in it and was a one owner truck. Buyers beware. At least you went and looked at it didnt buy it and get it shipped like we did. Good luck with your search.

Looks like he has added now in ad, that its a professionally cut down frame. Yes, best to ask for pic of SPID to verify correct 115" WB on short beds and if no SPID, pics of underside. I think his truck looks pretty nicely done myself in the pics provided. I would prefer it to have correct grill/hood and interior to match said 72 title though. My 71 K10 short bed is factory and I wouldn't take nothing near $11000 for it. So his price may not be to far off, considering if it was in my neck of the woods.

I'm not certain, would like to see a SPID. The black seat and visors could have been swapped in. I'm detecting a slight tint diff between bed and cab, so I'd want to confirm it's a swb truck on the SPID also. Still sure looks nice though! Needs real steelies rather than rally steelies. Could be a very nice truck with very little effort.

I'd buy these. In fact, I would encourage the buyer of my 69 K10 project in the parts forum to buy these as a direct bolt in for the ones I'm pulling out of it. What say you all, this is a decent find.

Thanks for posting that Open Road Camper, Dale. I love those. I could see driving across the USA in that.

This is the thread I consistently check first when I log in. I really enjoy seeing all the different trucks for sale across the country. Thanks for posting these up, guys!
