LOL... Guess I wasn't very descriptive... The air horn is the raised part over the primaries where the choke butterfly would sit.

For Hayden found this youtube video for identification.

Re: Drag racing

Pictures... Love it, now we can see what you have. As you see what everyone is trying to tell you is that there is a lot of work to go into this. Setting up something for the drags is a lot of work and even more planning.

As they are pointing out, Safety First....

Just from first glance The engine is not even close. If we could identify the heads and block, we would know what there is to work with. Those numbers I asked for are important. Definitely not camel humps on there as was mentioned earlier. Smaller valves and bad airflow are not your friend....

Can you take a couple more pictures? Both sides of the carb with the air filter off. Take off a valve cover and get a shot of any numbers or markings in the head. I suspect something about the intake, so look behind the carb and see if there is a name there or at least some kind of casting number.

Worst case - To get this up to say, 400hp which will be the highest I would recommend at this point, you are looking at going completely through this engine and that is assuming it really is a 350. Possible you could have a 305.... There was an earlier post saying to think about a crate engine. Something to think about if this turns out that even the block won't be salvageable.

Best case - Need a carb, heads, cam, lifters and valve train. Pull the engine apart and verify components inside.

This may not all feel like good news, but in order to fix something, you have to know what is wrong. Hope you have plenty of patience. I would bet that all of us on here have been very anxious to get something on the track but were not able to for various reasons....

Re: Drag racing

Not a good picture. Will get something better tonight. This is where you are heading but with what you want. This is a 383/465 set up. A 383 is a 350 bored and stroked.

Re: Drag racing

I will get some more pics as soon as I can. I'm just curious what is wrong with the crate motor? I put a good amount of $$ for the crate.

Re: Drag racing

You have a crate motor? I must have missed that. There will be some spec's that are associated with it. Who did you get it from, can you provide a link to the exact motor you bought?

Re: Drag racing

If you do an on-line search on Jegs, there are literally dozens of SBC crates. You don't have any paperwork such as a receipt or shipping documentation? You will have to go onto Jegs website and at least match what you paid. Then send over the link.

This engine and your picture don't match. Completely different engines.

Re: Drag racing

Here is what Jegs shows for the number you gave. Complete with Carb, Distributor, Intake and Aluminum heads. None match what you have.

Also would have been nice to have a heads up on a fire... Maybe some info on that?

Not to mention the $6,700.00 price tag to go in a $1,000.00 truck ,The fire ? Oh that happened when he hit the Nitrous on one of those 10:00 runs with 3 good tires and no safety equipment . Helmet must have been a little to tight ?

I don't have time to waste messing around with this. Been about as patient as I can be. Every time this story changes. Like Grumpy, I am done. Maybe someone else will want to take over...

Re: Drag racing

Hats off to Marine and Grumpy for your patience! The writing was on the wall from the beginning though with this first thread, "how do I get better fuel economy" http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=740695 followed up by this 5 page drag racing epic.

Re: Drag racing

Craziest thread I've seen on here in a long time! I bailed long ago, but followed along... kudos to those who stuck it out in good faith. Pseudologia fantastica for sure!

Re: Drag racing

Yeah, probably stuck with this longer than I should have. Maybe not an appropriate comment for this thread but in February my oldest Son was killed in a bike crash. Miss talking with him about this same type stuff. Helped him work through many builds and upgrades. Guess I was trying to replace those conversations.... Oh well, nothing ventured and all that crap...

I do appreciate everyone else that joined in as well. It is worth our time helping someone that is really trying to learn. Hope this guy understands what a great opportunity he wasted.

Re: Drag racing

You gave far more than was justified by his actions. I feel some what sorry for him. My step brother home schooled his kids back in the woods of northern Idaho and none of his five kids know how to interact with other people and probably never will. Poor kids never had a chance. Hayden reminds me of them. Unfortunately the only ones who will put up with him are tweakers and such.
And there is nothing inappropriate about your comment. Talking is how we heal.

Sorry to see this about your son.

BoT, maybe he has the wrong transmission gears for the alleged 4.11, and the speedo reads way high. That doesn't make the ET match, though. I was following along for amusement. Guess he's not coming back.
