Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

Is there a way to do this without buying a kit? Maybe use rotors and calipers off the cad?

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

I am using a 76-79 seville rear under my 72. It keeps the 5in bolt pattern & is already set up to sit on top of the leaf spring.

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

i am currently using 1986 caddy seville disc brakes in the rear of my 72 burb. kept same 5 lug pattern and still running mid 80's steel wheels.
86 seville had rear disk brakes that uses rubber brake line with a 10mm x1.50
banjo bolt.
i am using stock 72 burb rear end with the caddy backing plate and brake setup. the only problem you will have is the parking brake cable but, POL (performance online.com) has solved this issue and makes the correct lenght cable when using caddy disc brakes. I pieced my setup together, but POL makes a kit for 67-72 trucks to run caddy rear disk brakes.

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

If you dont care about an e-brake you could use the impala set up or if you do want and e-brake you can use the camaro calipers. Here are a couple pics of my impala setup.

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

I have rear discs off a fleetwood, I think it was a 76 or something

I havent gotten them installed yet, but as far as I know its pretty strait forward & you just swap the backing plates for the caliper bracket & bolt the rest of the disc stuff on

Also this may help you find some discs, its a list of 5x5 compatibility

Isn't the early Seville based on the same era Nova? Not that it matters, mind you. I'm just trying to reach back into some of the cracks and crevices of my damaged brain for some tidbit of trivia.

Mid 90's rotors and calipers. The cores for the calipers are expensive so try to hunt some old rusty ones down to turn back in for the core charge.
Here is an old thread on this.

Superman didn't mean to rush you. I'm trying to make up my mind on which way to go caddy (which I'm leaning towards)or the impala route.Caddys are more pleneful in this area.

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

alright 68 longbed again i apologize but here is what you were asking for:
this is my setup
85 cadillac seville calipers stamped 020,021
77 cadillac seville rear rotos (mine are just drilled)
banjo bolt 10x150
the cadillac rubber brake hose is metric for it to bolt up to your hard line you will need an adapter from metric to standard (got mine from napa).
hope this helps and if you have any questions i promise to get back with a speedy response.
hope the wait was worth it

What application is the caliper mounting plate from? And does it bolt right up to the backing plate flange? Thanks

Post #6 says he is using the Caddy backing plate, actually the entire Caddy setup. With an aftermarket parking brake cable and adapters for the brake line.

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

i am using 79 deville mounting brackets also i need to mention that the seville and deville rotors are the same for a number of years therefore can be interchangeable. as i was developing this brake setup there are several possibilities to choose from these are just what i had lying around and scavenged from friends.
here are some of the part numbers that i have that are stamped in the metal are:
1610797 rotors (stamped on back)
1613827 brake mounting bracket (stamped on front)
020 and 021 calipers passenger and drivers
these numbers are gm specific

final note: again this is just what i went with, please research info before spending time and money on your brake setups
good luck

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

i called chevy dealer and they said that they were no longer available. thats about the only way i know. CPP and POL both have kits that allow this type of setup they might just sell that mounting brackets wouldn't hurt to ask them. here are some other options:
good luck

Hey! Thanks 61 Superman. I just have 1 more question which thickness rotor are you using. In my junkyard hunting I seen 2 different thickness rotors, one 1/2 inch the other roughly 1 inch.
