MickMc and 61Superman, you guys rock! This is exactly the data I have been trying find. I joined this site in 2004, but have been pretty much inactive until last week (long story). I am just learning how to use the board. Thanks for all the specific data! The year models and part numbers really help!!

Unless there's already a more comprehensive writeup about this then I think it's a good canidate for the FAQ. I know I have it bookmarked .

Sorry to jump in , but did the rotor or axle have to be machined to fit?

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

[
I ran across this on ebay today.........Rear disc BRACKETS for chevy trucks. I emailed the seller and he confirmed that these will fit 71-72 chevy rear ends. These looks alot like the CCP brackets (and others). This uses the seville calipers and rotors. I've never seen just the brackets for sale.......

I apparently do not know how to copy the link. Here is the ID. Ebay Item 310109374559
I will add the link later if I figure it out. Sorry, 1st time to try this.

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

I am running this same setup on my 70 Nova. As with the truck 12 bolts the backing plates will bolt up to the car 10 and 12 bolts. I had to machine the axle flange down alittle to fit into the rotor. I am using 79 Firebird rear rotors which are the same as the Caddy rotors except with the 5 on 4 3/4. Mine has mid 80's s-10 front calipers on my setup, they bolt up the same and use the same pads.

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

the hardest part to find would be the backing plates, but everything else you could buy at your local auto parts store. Otherwise it's just junkyards and swap meets
good luck

From what I've read, they rape you on the core charges.

Superman, I just need to know if you had to modify the axle flanges. I found a set of rotors but they dont fit. the rotors I.D. measures approx 6in and the axel flanges are 6.5in.... is there a rotor that fits directly?

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

I'm using the caddy calipers on my 67. There was a member here who was sending out the templates for the brackets. I bought 2- 12"x12"x3/8" pieces of plate steel and carved them out with a cut off wheel and a grinder. It took time but it was cheap! I did need to tap a couple holes for the caliper bolts. Then I used 88 4x4 front rotors and turned down the axle hubs with a grinder for the rotors to slip over. Cheap and easy and they work great!

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

Speedway sells the brackets aswell either bolt on or weld on for about 12.00 each along with the adapter fittings or an fittings.

Every place I have found rape you on the core charge. I just picked up the calipers on ebay for 65.00 shipped, so that may be an option for some.

Be very carefull about which rotors though. the 79 rotors have a 4 3/4 bolt pattern vrs the 77 with a 5" bolt pattern.

Ask me how I know! Anyone need a pair of 5x 4 3/4 rotors?

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

Anybody know if there are 6-lug rotors that will work with this set-up?
I would like to make the conversion, but I don't want to swap the axles right now.

Blackbird Customs sells a 6 lug kit for about $400.

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

CPP has the rear e-brake calipers listed on ebay for $110 plus $18 shipping, no core (including pads)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts...1%7C240%3A1318

And here's a link for the brackets $87.95 plus $13.59 shipping.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/cc-CH...mZ310109374559

And here's the rotors from R1 Concepts @ $48.40 plus $21.82 shipping (for the pair).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts...1%7C240%3A1318

That's a total of $299.36 for rotors, pads, brackets, and calipers.

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

Hey Stovebolt, I would try the late model 4x4 front rotors on the rear. I am going to use them for a 4wd 4 wheel disc upgrade on my 93 Suburban. I see no reason why they would not fit on the older 6 lug axles. You just have to center the caliper on the rotor with your brackets.

Re: cadillac rear disc brakes on 70 truck

I am finishing up a 3/4 ton 14 bolt disc conv on my '71 Suburban and I used Cadillac Eldorado rear calipers w/ e-brake (bought on ebay), '71 4x4 front rotors, and I found a guy (via ebay) that used a waterjet cutting unit to cut some brakets to my specs, sent him the caliper and the bolt spacing for the rearend so I could bolt mount the brackets.

Looks good and is perfect for my 16" wheels
