Difference in NP208 & NP241

I am working on my 89 3/4 Suburban. It currently has a th400 mated to a NP241. I have a rebuilt 700R4 that I wanted to put into it, which is mated to a NP208. I know the 241 has an electric speedo, as the 208 is mechanical. Is there any other differences that would make me want to keep the 241? Also, I heard the 241 is a direct swap from a 208. Is this true? Thanks for all your help!

Try and see how many splines are on both and if they are the same you should be good to go.

Re: Difference in NP208 & NP241

4lo on the 241 is 2.72:1

2.61 in the 208

241 has a better oiling system and will keep cooler
241 is the best of the aluminum t-cases IMO.

Re: Difference in NP208 & NP241

also id like to add that the 700r4 has a lower first gear if im not mistakin
that combined with the 241 will give you a very nice crawl ratio!

Re: Difference in NP208 & NP241

Thanks! I appreciate the input. I don't plan on doing hard wheeling or crawling, but just some weekend fun driving through trails, etc. Hopefully the 241 will swap straight over to the 700.

Re: Difference in NP208 & NP241

the 241 should swap over fine. They came in the 90 & 91 burbs, with a 700R4.

I did register. Doesn't that make me a member? Is there more I have to do? You delete that post if you want about the 208.

Re: Difference in NP208 & NP241

I just came across some info that this swap might not work. I saw that NP241 on TH400s have a larger spline than those of 700R4s. So if my 241 wont mate up to the th400, can I use the parts from my NP208 that is currently on my to-be-installed 700r4 and make the 241 work? I guess my only real hangup on the 241 is that it has an elec speedo, which I would need to make it work in the truck. What would be my options if this swap doesn't work as planned? Can I use the 208? How could i make my speedo work with it?
