Re: Wood in a 72 Cheyenne Super

I have a 72 Super. Ochre with the parchment interior. It originally came with a black dash pad, black seatbelts, and black A/C outlets. So Trevor, you are not crazy.

Re: Wood in a 72 Cheyenne Super

Those look nice Gold.....but keep an eye out for the dash bezel.....I bought one from Gary for my blazer and started peeling off around the edges. I spent over $80 for it and I was not happy to see that.

Re: Wood in a 72 Cheyenne Super

I am going to sand down the ridges on my aftermarket cluster face, and hope this will help the woodgrain decal adhere to it better.

Re: Wood in a 72 Cheyenne Super

Clos69,
Thanks for the heads up. I would imagine though that he would take care of that for you.

That's my impression of him anyways. You might call him and see what he has to say.

He did say that he had had some issues with that and had finally found a supplier of bezels that have got a better surface now.

Re: Wood in a 72 Cheyenne Super

Leddzepp, before you sand down your bezel, you might try applying your vinyl woodgrain piece to a film adhesive such as 3M 467. It comes in wide rolls, up to 24" wide so you could do it in one piece. It is a non dimensional film adhesive that really sticks and would definately stick to the pebbled surface of a gauge cluster. Google that number and see if you can find someone in your area that has some and try to buy just what you need from them....I don't think you want a whole roll of it. Secondly, a lot of these appliques need to be burnished down to release the adhesive on them. They do this so you can re-position them in case you screw up laying it down the first time. Lastly, Gary/Super Cheyenne Man told me that some of the earlier vinyls he used didn't have long shelf lives and they shrunk considerably and released when applied. He now is only using
3M products and hasn't had any problems that I am aware of. Good luck and let us know your results when your done.

Joel

Re: Wood in a 72 Cheyenne Super

Those look good, but I am going to buy some of a roll and do it myself, as I have seen the proper way to lay it down, and I will know it's done right. Nothing against Gary's work at all because it really does look the part. Also, the gauge bezel as I have stated is thicker than the 3m di-noc samples that I got in the mail. They are almost a thin plastic material that possibly the di-noc is applied to. I am going to try a couple different ways to acheive a woodgrain cluster that doesn't peel up or shrink like mine have in the past. Trevor

Yeah he is a good guy to deal with and knows his stuff....He did say i could return it if i had any problems with it.....I guess mine being a blazer with the top off sitting in the sun adds to the problem.

Re: Wood in a 72 Cheyenne Super

Yeppers, I'd think that would be hard on everything in the interior.

You bring up a point though. With this kind of an interior restoration this truck is going to have to have deep tinted glass and one of those funky widow shade thingys for the windshield.

I'm building it as driver but it sure is hard not to think of it as show queen as you do the work.

All that stuff looks great, those are the first close-up pics I've seen of Gary's work.

Those pieces look outstanding. Gary does excellent work, he restored my vent window assemblies.

Though this is a truck site, I must say his Chevelle is the real attention getter . Trevor

Re: Wood in a 72 Cheyenne Super

100gold,My 72 is in pieces now, the picture in my avator was taken approx 10 years ago, unfortunately the only ones I have on my computer are with the new sheet metal test fitted. I need to dig out my old pictures and scan them.

Trevor, did I show you a pic of my Chevelle?

100gold, those pieces look absolutely amazing! And if that was done for the 5 bills I'm thinking, 2 zeros, that seems like a really good deal.
