I'm trying to stick to a fairly stock look with my truck. That being said, I like how a tinted window cuts down on the heat inside the truck, and provides a little privacy from traffic from the rear.

Was a tinted rear window ever an option from the factory? What about the dealer.

Do you think it would look out of place on my truck?

I'm not sure about the years, but some came with a greenish tint.

Givin what you've been doing to your truck to keep it stock I would go w/out tint. But it's all what you would like. Maybe you can try to find other trucks with different tint you might like and post on the Photoshop thread to see what it looks like??? I'm sure it would be easy to swap windows on photoshop to get an idea. You might even be able to just photo shop a tinted window from a manufacturer website and use a straight photo from the rear.

The factory tinted rear window would be the 5% that came as part of the A/C option. Period tint would be a green or blue tint. There are other period choices as well like a flag across the back window or lots of stickers. A filled gunrack works too.

The Soft Ray tint that was included with A/C or available by itself was green. All tint back then was. The one way mirror tint and dark smoked came along in the late-70s,but Soft Ray green was still factory. To stay original looking you'll have to stay away from those film tints. Your truck would look right with a sliding window or camper window as they were referred as. Your truck looks like a former camper hauler. Those weren't tinted at all,but they vent the cab nicely. Vent shades really help when parked. You can leave the windows down a bit and it's not noticeable.

No, I don't think it would. Mine's got factory green tinted windows, but the back is a slider which is dark tinted.

Actually "peroid correct" would be the lighter ones mentioned.But "period correct" aftermarket could be a set of curtains Mom made ya for it.Hung on springs top and bottom so they wouldn't blow around.

The factory didn't offer a darker tint, but the aftermarket sliders came in a gray tint. Unless you're going for a 100% restoration, I'd put a tint on it. Be careful about going too dark. The dark stuff then call limousine tint make law enforcement officers nervous.

Post it in the photoshop section, Those guys can tint it so you can see how it would look.

The tinted sliders came out in the '80s. You can paint the rear window black and still be legal in a truck. A truck can have a cap (topper,canopy,etc),or other body that completely obscures that area...mot to mention hauling a load. I tinted most back windows and it still looked original enough for an almost original truck. Here's my original Highlander that only has a lift kit and big tires. It was very dark tinted (side windows tinted,too). Here are pics of how I bought it and after the lift:

If I decide to tint it, I'll probably go with something really light. Maybe a bit reflective. They have some really good tint now days that keeps the heat down, even if it is light. I had my Audi A6 done with some really nice stuff that ran about $300 for the whole car, but boy is it nice

I'm pretty sure my tinting buddy mentioned clear tint the other day. It stops the uv rays and keeps the heat down.

I have a tinted rear window in my 1972 GMC 1500 Super Custom. The truck is stock baby poop green, and it also has a black roof. So it looks pretty slick.

I'm at work today, so I will have to take a pic when I get home.

I don't think it would look out of place on your truck. I just don't like any tint when I'm driving in the dark.

I am thinking of the same thing on my 1970 GMC. I like a nice smoked look but not blacked out. I might try 35% on the back and 50% on the sides.

It wouldn't "look" out of place, just about every one does this now a days. Sure beats burning up in the cab while you're driving.

Great, another thought to ponder. Well sir, my thought is be comfortable. This is an addition that can always be put back if you don't like the way it looks or feels. As many 67-72 trucks as I have owned, it is hard to keep the heat out.

I personally like the clear glass on my truck.
