Original primer colors

From what I gather here on the board the trucks have red primer and the black primer on them. Maybe red on the cab and black on the rest ... don't remember for sure.

I thought the color of the primer also affected the final color of the paint. It doesn't seem to hold true though since the original paint jobs were nice and uniform.

Just curious why this is. Maybe its true for some other kinds of paints?

This was under the Hugger orange on the bottom of a 71 cab. Other body parts were black primer.

So kind of like I was thinking. I wonder why the top coat of paint isn't effected by the different colors of bottom coats (primer)?

Factory paint was single stage, and contained lead. Both of which m made for good coverage.
