What's it worth?

Hey guys I'm trying to help out a friend of a good friend of mine that's looking to sell there 79 gmc high sierra short bed stepside. It's a one owner truck and very clean and straight. The original motor blew years ago so it has a 350 in it and an auto trans. The lady is in her 70's so trying to get a ballpark value for her to help out. Im not good with the values on the square body's so any help is appreciated. It's located in Sacramento Ca.

Re: What's it worth?

As all-original as that one appears, I'd be thinking pretty seriously about a classic car auction, such as bringatrailer. If you're determined to sell it locally, $5k would be a starting number, but a good auction could bring twice that amount.

Re: What's it worth?

Need a little more info . Pictures of the motor would help . Does it have A/C or other options . Is the motor the same as the one that blew or was it a i6 ? Stuff like that . It is a nice e looking truck in any case.

Re: What's it worth?

I would buy that for $5000 any day. Looks original and very clean and has some nice options. I see power windows, locks, and tilt column. Assume it has AC as well. Great, now I want it. Perfect color too. Removing the aluminum running boards will increase the value in my opinion.

Put it up for sale for 12k and make sure it is secured after it is advertised

Re: What's it worth?

Do some looking on Craigslist for 1973-1980 Chevrolet Trucks. Check several areas of the country. You should be able to get an idea for range of asking values for a nice looking truck. Doesn't tell you what they sold for or if they sold.

If what she is after is an estate probate value, the CL data might be good enough. If she wants to sell for maximum cash with minimum fuss, 2nd the auction thought.

Re: What's it worth?

One thing is get the prices from local sources. There is a huge price difference between the right and left coast. I think we in the northeast pay the highest as anything once is either trucked in or was garages and used rarely.

Nice truck, I’d give you 5 grand for it
Paid $7500 I think for my Black 4X4 a few years ago.

Re: What's it worth?

I think 5k is on the low side I'm thinking 6-7k pretty easy. I'd start at 10-12 and see what kind of offers come in.

Nice looking truck. They could have at least given you the whole cake with it though.

Re: What's it worth?

Looks like a 5th in the bed. So you would have to assume the bed has holes in it . NOT picking it apart but that could be detrimental to the price. I would love to own it .

I can't imagine anyone having the nerve to put a fifth wheel in a shortbed 1/2 ton truck. Whether gooseneck or fifth wheel, you'd have a miserable time controlling a trailer with that short of a wheelbase. I suspect the debris in the bed is something else.

Without a bed picture its conjecture. But it looks to be a 5th release handle and all and it's right over the axle . But it could be just laying in there

5K? If that truck is as clean as the pictures show then I'd double that, at least.

That truck is a little hottie if it runs like it looks. I wish it was closer to me. Good luck with it.

Hey, if someone will give you 20 grand for it then sure! But, I think asking 5 grand for the truck in the pictures is too low.

Y'all and your values.....
I say $5-6k. People paying more then that for these old things are getting ripped off pretty bad.

Re: What's it worth?

Thanks everyone. She's looking to get 8k out of it and from alot of the info I've been getting looks like 6 would be the floor and as high as 10 if someone is looking for that year. She has been out of town so I'm getting more details on it next week to get more info than what she gave me.
