To Keep or Not to Keep Stock HEI

Hi All,
I recently became the proud owner of a 1984 C20 Suburban with a 350 Chev and an SM465. My first priority is getting the rust and weather-stripping taken care of, but I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to MSD or another aftermarket HEI down the road. Right now it has the stock HEI, but I'm not sure if I should trust it at the moment.

Thanks All

If this is your Daily Driver?

I would say keep it Stock if so.

If you modify it and something goes wrong.

You will have a Wait period for parts.

This is something to think of.

Keep it stock, I don't see any reason to change with something like a Suburban. I like HEIs, I even put one on my Toyota with a 2.4

If it's running good then do everything else you want to do. If you do have an ignition failure then replace it with a $170 gm performance new distributor and your done forever. Msd and the other ignition systems do not add anything to a driver. In my opinion not much to a performance car until you get into high end drag race applications. I Install hei's in my street performance customers cars and trucks up to 600hp. Reliable is the key to a driver.
