Re: How to restore the 4x4 Blue Front Hub lock knobs?

I've soaked some that aren't too bad in oil. As long as it's not real white it comes back some. Not nearly new but it made mine back into almost new. Might weren't that bad though.

Re: How to restore the 4x4 Blue Front Hub lock knobs?

I've got the K20 ones reverse engineered and just need to find a reasonably priced guy with a CNC. These are in CAD (obviously) so I can export pretty much any file type for CNC or rapid prototyping.

Re: How to restore the 4x4 Blue Front Hub lock knobs?

I had a few mins today so I messed around with some blue lock-out dials to see what a torch could do to the chalky white faded dials. I cleaned them up, ( with very fine sand paper ) sanded any areas that needed it, then using a hot torch I
very quickly passed the flame back & forth over the dial allowing the flame to touch the plastic only for a fraction of a second at a time, slowly melting the white chalky plastic back to blue ! There not perfect, but much better than before ! What do you think ?

Just be careful. I did that with a heat gun before on a set. They melt really easy as the handle holes don't get as warm as the outside perimeter. Be very careful if using this method. Trevor

Re: How to restore the 4x4 Blue Front Hub lock knobs?

Hey Trevor !

Yeah, I have a few extras that I practiced on first. I found that using a very tiny tip for the recessed areas first, then a larger tip for the rest worked well.
But your right, you need to be very careful.
