Found Original Invoice 1969 C10

My dad passed away a few years ago and I was cleaning my closet and found some of his paperwork I had thrown in a box in the back of the closet. I found some interesting old paperwork. I found the original invoice from my dads 69 C10 he bought new. I also found an invoice for a 1959 Oldsmobile S88...

Crazy...the paperwork looks brand new. They were in an envelope folded neatly. Here is the picture of the 69 I took. The dealership is still in the same location 50 years later!

Very cool find!

To think a comparable new 2020 1/2 half ton Chevy runs about 10 times or more than your '69.

That's a cool find and in such nice condition too. Yeah a new truck for $4g sounds like a cheap price compared to today but back in '69 that was a lot of money. Car notes were tough to make at $150 per month, back then.

Using an inflation calculator $4,226.46 today is right around $30,000. A 2020 Silverado 1500 WT that is a 2WD Regular Cab long box with the only option being a V8 costs $30.290. Since AC and a radio is standard, its pretty comparable in cost after inflation.

Nice!

There's some cars I wish I could find the paperwork for in my dad's stuff.

My dad saved EVERYTHING and dated EVERYTHING. He was a piece of work. I just finished a box of brillo pads that my dad had dated 8/15/2014...LOL I mean he dated everything..from cereal to batteries.

I did the same calculations and was surprised at the amount of $4226 then versus now. That was a good chunk for a truck.

Me too! I know my dad bought a 57 Corvette new and said he paid $2500 for it...I just looked up pricing and it said base price was $3196...so maybe he did! He owned it for 6 weeks, my mom got pregnant with my oldest brother and my dad sold it. We never heard the end of that growing up.

My dad also loved cars...new and old. We had that in common...at least!

Re: Found Original Invoice 1969 C10

Here is another invoice I found for a 59 Olds S88...traded in a 59 VW bug for it...he went through some cars!

Unlike the other dealership that is still in business...I never heard of this olds dealer. They were long gone before I started noticing cars. Well of course Olds is gone altogether.

So true...not an hour spent with the finance manager reiterating, no I don't want wheel protection or whatever else they make a ton of $ selling. Crazy how long it takes these days.

Re: Found Original Invoice 1969 C10

It's interesting that he traded a 59 VW in on a 59 Oldsmobile. I wonder what the back story on that was.
Anybody else notice the price of the 68 truck was almost the same as the 59 Oldsmobile?

He never mentioned the VW much...other than saying he owned one once. The only cars he really talked about were the Corvette..a 61 C10 Apache, and the first car he ever owned a 40 Ford Coupe Deluxe...when he was 14! He later found another 40 Ford and restored it...kept it for 30+ years and sold it about 5 years before he passed away.

Re: Found Original Invoice 1969 C10

those are great finds! I just love looking at old paperwork and hearing the stories behind them!

back in July while visiting the family farm, I was helping my mom with some cleaning and organizing and we found these receipts..

grandpa's first tractor in 1950 he traded in for the second one in 1957 that we still have

I reckon there's a heap of other old records there but this one is kinda special since I have a lot of memories attached to it..

I use that little chore tractor every time I'm there, my daughter and I last year going for a little ride after some grading in the barn

That is cool...I think the memories we make like this with our kids are the best! Links the past with the present.

I agree...the trades are a very cool aspect of the invoices. The fact he traded a 59 VW on a 59 Olds...of course my oldest brother was 1 in 59...so maybe that had something to do with it.
