My`91 3/4t 4wd.It`s a former fleet vehicle from the WashingtonSuburbanSanitaryCommission(WSSC).You can still see the logo on thr door where the paint faded.I get a "kick" out of that.It`s the base Scottsdale model.Options include:6.2 diesel/4L80E,am/fm,big tank,skid-plates,4.11 gov-lok,auto-hubs,a/c,privacy tint,and panel doors.What I`ve done:Warn Premiums(manual),tilt/sport wheel,4"TuffCountry EZrides all around,6 Rancho RS9000Xs,Sway-bar spacer,ss brake hoses,12.50/35x16 Wrangler MTRs on 10x16 Black steel wheels(w/black`95 centers),and dual 3"exhaust w/Dynomax Ultraflow round mufflers.
I took a couple more shots:

I hear ya!That`s got to be the ugliest grille for that bodystyle.I`ve gotten used to it.Also,it`s kinda counter-SUV lookin`.I have a(used to think they were ugly)4-light 81/82 egg-crate`n`core support for it.I like them now because you don`t see them much, they`re aggressive looking(mines black),and it`ll make it look like the earliest not latest of that f/e design. Can`t find the time though.Yours has come along nicely.I may get a cowl-induction hood if I paint it.If I paint it,I`m thinking flat desert tan, nothing pretty.Plans are to build a winch bumper(w/winch),HD back bumper, and roof-rack.Also,I have a loaded 2wd diesel Suburban that I`m taking the cruise and cloth seats out of.Mine only has the two.One fancy trick feature it`s getting is a 6.2 emblem off the rear of the`86 that has red/6.2 and green/diesel l.e.d. lights in it.A guy in Texas did it on his pickup and I sent him my emblem to do it for me.When I get it back I`ll post pictures. He`s been busy, might be a while.

Here's a couple of mine. I still haven't fixed the body yet (working on that this summer/fall), but it runs and drives great. Changes since this picture are BFG All Terrain tires (33x12.5x15), and 3/4 ton rear springs (thanks bisquik!).

Future plans are to repair the rust (mostly doors and rear quarters), leave it in some epoxy waterproof primer until we decide what color it should be (and when I say "we", I mean "the wife" ), and start working on getting some more power to the ground. It does OK now, but there's always room for more HP.

A little history on it: I bought it in August of '02 for $800, with a newly rebuilt trans and transfer case. The owner got tired of dumping money into it, and it needed a fuel tank (40 gallon, not as cheap as I thought!), sending unit, valve seals, and front brakes. I did all that stuff, and started driving it. Then I installed a 2" Rough Country spring lift, with new shocks, steering stabilizer, tie rods, ball joints, mainly everything in the front end. I also installed new fenders and inners while the truck was down for the suspension work. I drove it some more, and added things as time and money allowed: Class 3 hitch, Pioneer CD player, Sony Xplode speakers, Uniden CB/K40 antenna, Energy Suspension body mounts, and a bunch of random maintenance stuff. It's finally getting to a point that I'm ready to start the body repairs, the rust is starting to get bad on the panels, but the floors and frame are very good. Seems worth it to me.

I'm pretty proud too, that I did all the work myself, mostly with hand tools until I got a compressor/air tools, a welder, torches, and a garage to do all the work in. I'm looking forward to getting the body panels done, along with fabbing up some custom bumpers, grille, and roof rack. I like making the stuff myself, it's cheaper, and exactly what I want.

So far this spring/summer, we've logged about 5500 miles, one trip to Disneyline in FL, and another to MI to visit friends. On the trip to MI I towed a car out and back, which I run on a road course out there. The truck behaved just fine, and my wife was pretty impressed that nothing broke. I kinda took that as a shot at me, but happily brushed it off as the truck just kept lumbering along.

Needless to say, I'm very happy with the truck, and the deal I got. I've still got less than $3k into it. A lot better than the $40k plus the new ones sell for, and I don't have to care if the kids make a mess on the back seats.

Sorry for the long post, but I love this truck!

It would have been good to have known about this site 3 years ago, when I bought the truck. I had to put the gas tank in it to be able to drive it, so I had no choice but to buy it new, for $300.

If I had known you at the time, I definitely would have asked if you had one, lol.

Is Rhode Island off the coast of California?LOL!If I`d known that I`da checked out Hollywood when I was there.Toroflow,I really like it!Do you enjoy putting all the newfangled SUV drivers in their place with that?I had similar plans for mine but have backed down since I`ve had to rack alot of miles on it and have other older projects. It was s`posed to be just for "get-aways" and used when we needed to haul more than a couple people. It became my driver when the motor went up in my work truck.Fixed that after a year, then totalled it.So,back in the`Burb.I have a couple sets of 1t axles, but I`m not using them on the `Burb.I have other plans now.Hey Bob,so that`s your Suburban.Doesn`t look bad at all in the pics.

Well, it sure ain't CA weather out here. Bisquik, you must have been looking at the red Burb's location, and thought that was me. Still here in the Northeast, and yes, prices are pretty high here, unless you know where to go to get deals. Now that I know, I don't spend too much on stuff any more.

Special-K, it doesn't look all that bad in those pics, but those are from two years ago. Since then, the rear doors have rusted a little more, along with the tailgate and support. It's still roadworthy, and passed state inspection, but it does need some attention. Plus, the passenger's side rear quarter is bashed in from when I was flat towing my in-law's Jeep in an ice storm, and slid. No damage to the Jeep (it has a huge pushbar), but the quarter is going to need replacing. Not a big deal, it's rusty and I was planning on a new 1/4 anyhow.
