Re: My 87 K5 Blazer project

Got my K5 emblems put on and got my tailgate straps so now I can sit on my tailgate. I still need a exhaust, the grille trim and a few other things. I'm very happy with it and I've been driving it alot lately and I enjoy it.

Haha nah it has never been painted everything on it is factory except for the grille letters I painted them black and gold to match better. It came from the factory with painted cladding.

Got to really test out the 4x4 tonight my buddy got his Silverado stuck and I was a last resort so I had to go pull him out and I must say the K5 did a really good job and I'm VERY proud of it.

Got some stuff at Autofair for the K5. I got some new 4x4 center cap decals and two Chevy truck license plates.

Re: My 87 K5 Blazer project

Just a heads up, that body-color stripe in the grill is factory. So when you painted it black, it looks like you scored a grill out of the junk yard off a black truck. At least to those of us old enough to remember them new.

If you don't like the body-color stripe, I'd try a silver just because it'd match the headlight bezels. And if it doesn't match good, you can paint the headlight bezels at the same time.

You've brought the truck around well - nice work!

Thanks I know it was suppost to be red but it looked bad with how it was before. Now that I've brought the paint back out I'm debating repainting it red or should I paint it silver?

Re: My 87 K5 Blazer project

I think there are some tow hooks in the FOR SALE section.

Also...I think the bumperettes get in the way of the tow hooks by a little bit.

Re: My 87 K5 Blazer project

Thanks guys I agree it does look better without the steps and it does look higher too. Hard to believe a few weeks ago ol' red looked like this and was just another truck http://greensboro.craigslist.org/cto/2270897781.html

Nice work polishing the truck out. If the previous owner could see it I think he might want it back.

I'd vote red, just to keep it stock looking. But if you want to use silver, try this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/VHT-SP186/

A little pricey, but I keep a few cans around for anything I need to paint silver. It works well.

Re: My 87 K5 Blazer project

I think I'm going to paint the trim on the grille back to the original red for originality. I'm also wanting to put a dual exhaust on it I haven't decided where I want it to come out yet probably on both sides of the hitch with chrome tips.

Re: My 87 K5 Blazer project

I hate aftermarket cd players someone has butchered all of my radio wiring in my truck. So I guess I'll have to go to the junkyard to find the factory connectors for it or see about this cd player I have I haven't decided yet. Does anybody have any wiring diagrams for the radio?

Re: My 87 K5 Blazer project

Well tried my hardest with this aftermarket radio but I give up lol so this weekend probably Friday I'm going to go to the junkyard and get the factory wiring and put a factory radio I have out of a Suburban in it and be done with it.
