New Bed Wood Installed

I finally installed the Wood in the Bed. It is some re-purposed wood that was from a building that had been torn down a while back.

That's beautiful! You aren't going to haul manure with it, are you?

I don’t just like it I love it.

I’d like to do something similar when the time comes. My truck will never be perfect or a show truck so something in the bed with similar character would be great.

My truck is similar, it has scratches and nicks all over but it is a driver not a show truck.

I finished the wood with sanding a about 6 coats of Teak Oil and thats all. that way I dont have to be afraid to use the bed as a truck. if the bed starts looking faded all I have to do is put more oil on it with out removing the wood and it will look new again....

Re: New Bed Wood Installed

Do you know what type of wood it is? I like the oil-only finish. Just hit it again when it starts looking dried out or water doesn't bead. Easy

I have planned to do the same thing with my '67 when the time comes. I am only using a wood floor because it wasn't a big deal shipping all the clean OEM parts, minus the wood and bolts, back east. I want to use the truck gently, so don't want a cabinet grade floor. I salvage wood from jobs I do, often on historic places, for all sorts of uses. My truck may end up staying a primer color. If so, I'll use weathered wood

I am not sure, when I got it I thought it might be Pine (it was really dirty) but now I am thinking it is some type of hardwood.

It's really looking like the yellow pine to me. Mine has taken on the same dark patina.

Piece of advise. Fill the cracks, or they will continue to open. I mix sawdust with my tung oil to fill the cracks before I oil. My wood stopped moving around on me now. If it lives outside, you need to keep an eye on the cracks.

I started to do the same as you with saw dust but decided I like the character the cracks give it. i felt the cracked wood matched more with the rest of the truck. I didnt want a perfect looking bed since the rest of the truck is not perfect (trying to avoid the marble floors in a mobile home kind of look lol). i did put as much oil on the bottom as on the top to try and extend whatever time it will have.
