Drop blocks??

Does anyone sell just the drop blocks without the u bolts? I already have new u bolts that are long enough.

Re: Drop blocks??

I'm not sure about someone selling them. But, I'm making my next set from aluminum bar. The prices they are charging for the kits is nuts compared to the U-bolts and bar stock and some drilling.

If you are not comfortable doing the drilling and cutting yourself. I'm sure there's a local metal fab guy that could handle it for you.

Re: Drop blocks??

I bought a set of 3” blocks with U-bolts from Amazon - $75.

As said above, likely too much for what they are, but the blocks were powder coated, the bolts were the perfect length for the blocks and a set of 4* pinion shims….and I didn’t have to go hunt around.

I’m sure I could have sourced stuff for next to nothing, but the the time spent and driving around….just buying a set all ready go to, delivered made more sense in the long run.

Your results may vary

I could definitely cut and drill. Not sure where to find some aluminum stock. I’m only wanting a 1” drop.

Re: Drop blocks??

Look on Summit or any other parts website and you'll find all kinds of blocks for sale. Good chance someone on this board has at least one set sitting on the shelf also.

Something like this:

12 inches of 3x1 bar should make you 2 blocks, each 6 inches.

Re: Drop blocks??

Whatever you do, don't buy this set from western chassis. I did and regretted it. Those blocks are shaped that way to securely fit around the u bolts and are about 2" shorter than the perches on the differential giving a very flimsy look that I had no confidence in. I too made my own from 2 1/4" thick aluminum for my 66. It's very easy

Re: Drop blocks??

raggedjim. I knew I'd seen something like that on here. TXFirefighter made his 7 inches long and 2 inches wide.

I used some like Chevy Nutcase and they can't be much more than 5 inches long. Distance on outside of U-bolt is 4.25 + .375 on each side for the metal. That is where I came up with my 6 inch length.

If they only need to be 2 inches wide and 6 inches long. Here's a cheaper piece of metal.
