Wet sanding

I'm finally at the next stage of restoration! Yay for me!

The roof needs to be painted base/clear while it is still on the rotisserie. All body work is done, coated with SPI epoxy then SPI 2K. Most of the roof was sanded with 320 dry paper using a 3' long aluminum sanding block and a 30" Durablock so things are nice and even. What is my next step with wet sanding? Should a coat of epoxy be used as a sealer as a final step? Is the epoxy sealer wet sanded?

Thanks

Paul

Re: Wet sanding

You already have high build on the roof?..if you do and needs no more bodywork then sand your way up to whatever is recommended by your paint pds...
If you need sealer you can do it also
i dry sanded up to 400g for my single stage..its a little coarse but I wanted a little extra bite...
most use 5-600g..my paper work said 4-600g for final sanding prior to paint...
I didnt wet sand anything till I got paint on it

Re: Wet sanding

If you’re doing a non metallic color as mongo Stated 400 is fine if you’re going to go to a metallic then you would probably want to do 600 and that would have to be wet

Re: Wet sanding

Thanks guys.

I'm doing the stock white roof with the blue body. Hawaiian blue maybe? The 400 would be dry sanding not wet?

Re: Wet sanding

What I said is if you do 600 it needs to be wet it’s just too fine to do dry you can do 400 Wet or dry

Re: Wet sanding

Gotcha...I had clogging issues with the 400g...( not clogging like in the gieco commercial though)...but I could suck the primer off the paper with the shop vac and keep going

Thanks for the clarification! From my experience wet sanding makes the paper last a lot longer.
